Klein Tools 31914 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Klein bi-metal hole saw come with an arbor, or do I need to buy one?
No arbor is included. The Klein bi-metal hole saw runs on Klein Arbor Cat. No. 31905, which is sold separately. If you are buying your first Klein hole saw, order the arbor on the same purchase order or the saw will not mount in your drill.
2) Will this hole saw cut stainless steel enclosures, or do I need something else?
Cutting steel, including stainless, is what this one is built for. The bi-metal blade is optimized for steel and also cuts mild steel, drywall, ceiling tile, laminates, wood and plastic, so one saw handles a panel door and a drywall ceiling on the same job. Keep the speed low and use cutting fluid on stainless as you would with any bi-metal saw.
3) How deep will this hole saw cut?
The saw body measures 1 inch in depth, so it is sized for sheet metal, panel doors, drywall, ceiling tile and thin stock rather than deep plunges through framing lumber.
4) How do you get the slug out of a Klein bi-metal hole saw without wrecking it?
The cup is cut with multiple slots at different points around the body, so you can get a screwdriver or punch in at whatever angle the slug will pop from. That matters on stainless slugs that wedge tight. The base also has flat edges so you can get a wrench on it to break the saw loose from the arbor.
5) Can I use this hole saw on a live panel?
No. Klein states plainly never to use it on or near live electrical circuits. De-energize and verify before you cut. Approved eye protection is required, and follow the safety instructions in your drill's owner manual.
6) Is this hole saw heavy duty enough for daily use in an electrical crew's kit?
It is built for it. Heavy-duty steel construction with a thick back plate to take abuse, and a fast-cutting bi-metal blade. The thick back plate is the part that matters on repeat work, since that is where lighter saws deform and start wobbling on the arbor.
