Klein Tools 602-10 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use the Klein 602 keystone screwdriver on live electrical work?
No. The Klein Tools 602 Series keystone screwdriver is not insulated and will not protect you against electrical shock. If you are working on or near energized conductors, you need a 1000V insulated screwdriver instead, not this one. The 602 is a general purpose electrician's driver for de-energized work.
2) What tip and shank sizes does the Klein 602 keystone screwdriver come in?
Three combinations: a 7/32 inch tip on a 3 inch shank (602-3), and a 3/8 inch tip on either a 10 inch shank (602-10) or a 12 inch shank (602-12). The 602-3 is the stubby for panel and box work in tight quarters; the 10 and 12 inch versions give you reach down into gear and behind equipment.
3) Can I put a wrench on the Klein 602 screwdriver to break a tight screw loose?
Yes. The 602 keystone screwdriver has a hex bolster at the base of the shank that reinforces the shank and gives you flats for a wrench, so you can add leverage on a seized slotted screw. What you should not do is pry or chisel with it, and wear eye protection when you lean on it.
4) Are Klein 602 screwdrivers made in the USA and do they meet a recognized standard?
Yes on both counts. The 602 Series keystone screwdrivers are made in the USA and meet or exceed applicable ASME/ANSI specifications, which is the line institutional and MRO buyers usually need on a tool submittal.
5) Is the Klein 602 screwdriver shank round or square, and does that matter?
Round shank. The 602 keystone screwdrivers use a round shank with a hex bolster at the handle, so the wrench purchase comes from the bolster rather than from flats running the length of the blade. A square shank driver lets you grip a wrench anywhere along the shaft, which some techs prefer for heavy breakaway work.
6) Will the Klein 602 screwdriver hold a screw magnetically?
No, the 602 keystone driver is not magnetized. If you are fishing device screws into a deep box one-handed, you will want a magnetic tip driver or a screw-holding driver instead.
7) How do I tell a Klein 602 keystone driver apart from the other screwdrivers on my belt without pulling it out?
Klein puts Tip-Ident on the end of the handle, a marking that shows both the driver type and which way the tip is oriented, so you can identify a 602 keystone in the pouch and line the blade up with the slot before it clears the belt. Handles are black cushion grip across the line.
8) Will the handle on the Klein 602 spin loose or pull off the blade under hard torque?
The blade is anchored by internal flanges molded inside the handle, which resist twisting, and the shank is heat-treated steel with a chrome-plated finish for corrosion resistance. The cushion grip handle is built to take torque rather than just comfort. Overall handle width measures 2.367 inches.
