Klein Tools 70204 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What metric sizes do the Klein Tools metric nut drivers come in?
Eight metric hex sizes: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 mm. The part numbers run in order, 70204 for 4 mm through 70211 for 11 mm, so the last two digits are the size.
2) Are Klein 70204 series nut drivers safe to use on live electrical work?
No. These nut drivers are not insulated and will not protect against electrical shock, so they are not for live work. De-energize the circuit first, or use a properly rated insulated driver. Eye protection should be worn when using them.
3) Will a Klein metric nut driver reach down over a long bolt or stud?
Yes. The shaft is hollow, so it slips over long bolts and studs rather than bottoming out on the end of the thread. That is what makes it work on stacked circuit boards and panel standoffs. Usable shaft depth is 3 inches (7.6 cm), with an overall tool length of 6.625 inches (16.8 cm), so anything protruding past 3 inches past the nut is more than it will swallow.
4) Will these nut drivers hold the nut on their own so I can start it one-handed?
No. These are non-magnetic, so the nut will not stay in the socket by itself. Start fasteners by hand or pick a magnetic-tip driver if you are working overhead or down inside a panel where a dropped nut is a problem.
5) Should I get the 3-inch shaft or a longer shank nut driver?
The 3-inch shaft is the standard length and covers most work: panel screws, terminal nuts, strut and box hardware where the fastener is close to the surface. Go to a longer shank only when you need to reach a nut recessed down in a cabinet or well below the face of an enclosure. With the handle, the standard version measures 6.625 inches overall, which is short enough to work inside a crowded panel.
6) How do I tell the sizes apart quickly in a pouch?
Klein color-codes the Comfordome handles by size for fast identification. On the metric set the handle is black with the size marking, and the handles are smooth and domed to sit in the palm for torque without a hot spot.
7) Will the shaft spin loose in the handle under heavy torque?
The shaft is anchored by internal flanges in the handle, which resist twisting when you lean on the nut. The shaft itself is chrome-plated to hold off corrosion in damp mechanical rooms and service trucks. Made in the USA, and built to meet or exceed applicable ASME/ANSI specifications.
