Klein Tools Safety Helmet, Premium KARBN Pattern, Class C

It's a Class C helmet, which means the shell is vented/conductive and offers no electrical protection. Class C covers impact only. If your crew works on or near energized conductors, you need a Class E or Class G helmet instead, not this one. The Klein KARBN pattern helmet meets ANSI Z89.1-2014 (R2019), CSA Z94.1-15 (R2020), and EN397:2012+A1:2012 (excluding the lateral deformation and molten metal splash clauses).

Type 1 only. It has been tested for limited impact protection from the top, front/back and side per EN12492:2012 clauses 4.2.1.2, 4.2.1.3 and 4.2.1.4, but Klein states plainly that it is NOT an ANSI/CSA Type II helmet. If a site spec requires ANSI Type II, this helmet will not satisfy it even with the side-impact testing.

Ventilation. Cat. No. 60515 is the non-vented version and 60517 is the vented one with large adjustable vents. Both are Class C Type 1 helmets on the same KARBN pattern shell. Vented moves more air in heat; non-vented is the pick when you want fewer openings for dust, spray or debris overhead.

A Klein rechargeable headlamp, Cat. No. 56062, is included along with its charging cable. It's a lithium-ion LED lamp running 300 lumens on boost, 215 on spot/high and 100 on flood/low. Nothing extra needed to get light on the job out of the box.

Hat size range is 6.5 to 8, adjusted by a large ratchet knob you can work one-handed with gloves on. The 6-point suspension has a soft neck pad that pivots to clear bandana knots and ponytails, so it accommodates most crews out of a single part number rather than stocking sizes.

Yes. There are universal accessory slots on both sides for hearing protection, a face shield and similar, plus patent-pending mounts on the front and back for Klein headlamps and accessories that clip on without straps or zip ties. Slots are provided front, back and both sides.

Klein lists a replacement sweatband (KHHSWTBND2), top pad (KHHTOPPAD2), chin strap (CLMBRSTRP) and suspension (CLMBRSPN2). Add-on accessories include a rechargeable headlamp (56049), safety lamp (56063) and cooling fan (60155). For a fleet, the sweatband and top pad are the wear items worth keeping on the shelf.

1.8 lbs as a complete assembly. The suspension uses a flexible open frame design, and the sweatband and top pad are padded, sweat-wicking and odor resistant. Both pads are machine washable, which matters when the same helmet stays on a head all summer.

Shell is PC/ABS composite, with the KARBN pattern applied as a hydro-dipped polymer film rather than a decal. Suspension components are PC/ABS and HDPE. Hydro-dipping bonds the pattern to the shell surface, so it isn't an edge-lifting applied graphic.

The 4-point padded chin strap detaches. Leave it on for climbing, elevated work or anywhere you're tilting your head and the helmet could shift; pull it off for flat ground. It works with the 6-point suspension to keep the helmet seated.

Overall it measures 10.7 x 8.8 x 6.2 inches (27.2 x 22.4 x 15.7 cm) for length, width and height. Useful if you're sizing gear lockers or a job box for a crew's worth of helmets.
