KSP 308 Series - 6 or 7-Pin SFIC Rim Housing

The KSP 308 Series is a rim cylinder housing, the shell that an interchangeable core drops into so a rim exit device can be keyed. It is the housing only, not a complete cylinder and not a core. To make a working assembly you order the housing plus the matching core in your keyway and keying, and reuse or order the tailpiece and mounting plate your exit device requires.

Both are offered. The 308 Series comes in an SFIC version sized for a 6 or 7-pin small format interchangeable core, and an LFIC version for large format cores. Those are two different housings, so pick the one that matches the cores your building is already keyed on. An SFIC housing will not accept a large format core, and the reverse is equally true.

The SFIC version of the 308 takes either a 6-pin or a 7-pin small format core, so a facility standardized on 7-pin figure-eight cores works without a separate part number. Both pin counts share the same figure-eight core footprint, which is why one housing covers them.

Housing only. The 308 ships as the rim shell and the core is a separate order, which is the point of an interchangeable core system: the housing stays in the device and the locksmith swaps keying by pulling the core with a control key. Order the core in your facility's keyway and keying, and specify 6 or 7-pin to match the SFIC housing if that is the version you take.

Rim and mortise cylinders are not interchangeable. A rim cylinder like the 308 mounts from the inside face of the door with a back plate and screws and drives a flat tailpiece into the exit device chassis. A mortise cylinder threads into a mortise case and drives a cam instead. Check what the device calls for: rim exit devices normally take a rim cylinder, while mortise exit devices and mortise locks take a threaded mortise cylinder.

Four finishes: satin chrome, satin bronze, rubbed dark bronze, and polished brass. Each is available on both the SFIC and the LFIC housing, so a property manager matching a fleet of existing openings can hold one finish across both core platforms. Satin chrome is the usual match for brushed or satin stainless exit devices; polished brass suits bright brass trim.

That is the reason to spec one. With the 308 housing installed in the rim device, a rekey is a control-key core pull and a new core in, on each door, with no device removal and no pinning at the opening. For a property manager or MRO buyer turning units or handling a lost-key event across a portfolio, that is the difference between a service call per door and a walk-through.
