1) What pin sizes do the Kwikset 8310X-001 bottom pins come in?
The 8310X-001 bottom pins are sold by depth, in sizes #1 through #6. You pick the size you need rather than getting a mixed assortment, so a locksmith rekeying to a specific bitting orders the individual depths that bitting calls for. Each is a 100 piece pack of a single size.
2) Will these Kwikset bottom pins work in my Kwikset cylinders?
They are made for Kwikset pin and tumbler keying, so they drop into Kwikset pin tumbler cylinders being rekeyed or keyed alike. They are not a SmartKey component and they are not cut for another manufacturer's depth system, so don't plan on using them in Schlage or Kwikset SmartKey cylinders.
3) Do I need top pins and springs too, or is that included?
This is bottom pins only, 100 of one depth. Rekeying a cylinder also takes top (driver) pins and springs, which are separate items, so a property manager or maintenance shop standing up a rekeying kit needs those on the order as well. Master keying adds master wafers on top of that.
4) Which depth of Kwikset bottom pin do I order for a rekey?
Order by the bitting on the key. The 8310X-001 comes in depths #1 through #6, and each cut position on a Kwikset key corresponds to one of those numbers, so a key bitted 3-5-2-4-1 needs one each of #3, #5, #2, #4 and #1. Shops that rekey regularly stock all six depths so any bitting can be pinned on the bench.
