Kwikset 83326 780/980/800 SmartKey Security Conversion Kit for Single Cylinder Handleset

The 83326 kit accepts either the Kwikset KW1 keyway or the Schlage SC1 keyway, so it can be re-keyed to keys you already carry on one of those two profiles. If your building keys are a different profile (Weiser WR5, Sargent, Corbin, or any restricted keyway), this kit won't take them.

It converts Kwikset 780, 980 and 800 series single cylinder handlesets to SmartKey Security. It is a single cylinder kit, so it suits a handleset keyed from the outside with a thumbturn inside. A double cylinder opening, keyed both sides, needs a different kit.

That is the point of the SmartKey conversion. Once the 83326 cylinder is in the handleset, the lock re-keys in seconds with the working key and the SmartKey tool, no disassembly and no pinning kit. Yes. The 83326 is ordered keyed alike or keyed different, and keying is free. Order keyed alike across a set of handlesets and one key runs them all, which is what you want across a duplex or a small rental portfolio. Keyed different gives each opening its own key. There is also an optional key code field if the units have to match an existing bitting you already carry.

It is a residential product. For single family homes, condos and light multi-family turnover it does the job. For a commercial entry on a high-traffic opening, or anywhere your spec calls for commercial grade hardware, this is not the cylinder to specify.

Just the cylinder. The 83326 is a cylinder conversion kit, so the existing 780, 980 or 800 handleset stays on the door, the trim and the bore stay as they are, and only the keyed cylinder is swapped for the SmartKey unit. That keeps the exterior look of the door unchanged, which matters when only some units in a building are being converted.

The SmartKey cylinder is built to resist advanced break-in techniques, which is the reason to convert an older 780 or 800 handleset rather than leave the original cylinder in it. The re-keying convenience and the added attack resistance come in the same part.

Purely mechanical. No wiring, no battery, no power at the opening. The SmartKey re-keying works off the key and the tool, so nothing about this conversion changes when the power drops.
