Case measures 21-5/8 x 7-7/8 x 1-5/8 inches, so it slides into a shallow van drawer that would not take a deeper tray-style kit. It also has key slots so you can hang it on a workbench wall instead of giving up bench space.

The .003 refers to the step between pin lengths: sizes advance in 0.003 inch increments rather than the coarser .005 steps. That finer granularity is what lets you pin cylinders from manufacturers whose depth systems do not land on .005 boundaries, and it is what you want if you service a mixed range of hardware rather than one brand. If everything you touch is a single .005-based system, a smaller kit covers it. The LPK003 is the universal option.

This is a commercial kit, built for a locksmith or an in-house maintenance shop rekeying cylinders all day rather than a one-off door. The metal case and the 72-pin pockets are the tell: it is sized for volume work across a building or a fleet of properties.

Pins are color coded by size and the kit carries a color passport pin chart in the lid, so you match the color to the depth without measuring. The dual-view pin tray lets you see the pockets from either side of the bench, which matters when the kit is mounted vertically on a wall.

Springs are in the kit, 115L, 100 per pocket. You do not need a separate spring order to start rekeying. Note that the kit covers pins and springs only, so cylinder plugs, keyblanks, and your pinning tools come from elsewhere.
