LCN 1450-30 689 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What finishes does the LCN 1450-30 cush shoe support come in?
Six finishes are offered on the LCN 1450-30 cush shoe support: 689 aluminum, 690 statuary bronze, 691 light bronze, 693 gloss black, 695 dark bronze, and 696 brass. Those are the standard LCN closer finish numbers, so you can match the support to the finish already on the closer body and arm rather than ending up with a mismatched piece on the frame.
2) What exactly is a cush shoe support on an LCN door closer, and what does it do?
It is the frame-mounted support piece that backs up the shoe on a cush arm assembly. Its job is to cushion the shoe mechanism so the arm is not taking the full shock of the door swing, which cuts wear on the shoe and stretches the service life of the closer. It is a replacement or maintenance part, not a complete closer or a complete arm.
3) Does the LCN 1450-30 include the door closer itself?
No. The 1450-30 is an accessory component only, ordered on its own to service or rebuild an existing closer installation. You still need the closer body and arm assembly it mounts to. Order the finish that matches the hardware already on the opening.
4) I manage a building with LCN closers on dozens of doors. Can I standardize on one cush shoe support part?
The 1450-30 support is built for use across a range of LCN door closer models rather than a single one, so it works as a stocked spare for a mixed fleet of LCN closers. The variable you do have to pin down per door is finish, since the same part ships in aluminum, statuary bronze, light bronze, gloss black, dark bronze, and brass. Most commercial buildings settle on one or two of those, so a small shelf stock covers the property.
5) Is the LCN 1450-30 cush shoe support suitable for a high-traffic commercial opening, or is it a residential part?
Both. LCN lists it for commercial office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, industrial and warehouse sites, multi-tenant residential buildings, and government work, as well as residential door closer use. On a high-cycle opening it is the part doing the most to protect the shoe mechanism from repeated shock loading.
