LCN 4030-79 689 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What exactly is the LCN 4030-79 rod and shoe assembly, and what does it do?
It's the arm hardware that connects an LCN 4030 Series door closer to the door frame. The 4030-79 is the long rod and shoe version, which gives extra length and leverage in the arm linkage for closing control. It is a replacement component only, not a complete closer, so you still need the closer body and main arm on the door.
2) Will the 4030-79 rod and shoe fit any LCN closer, or only the 4030 Series?
It's built for LCN 4030 Series closers. The 4030-79 is made to LCN's 4030 dimensions, so if the closer on your door is from a different LCN series, order the rod and shoe for that series instead of this one.
3) I'm replacing a broken parallel arm rod on a school door closer. Is this the right part to order?
If the closer is an LCN 4030, yes, this is the replacement rod and shoe assembly for it. It's a commercial-duty part and it's listed for use in educational facilities, healthcare, office and multi-tenant buildings. Match the finish to the rest of the closer arm so the repair isn't obvious.
4) What finishes does the LCN 4030-79 rod and shoe come in?
Thirteen finishes: 616 satin bronze blackened, 632 bright brass, 633 satin brass, 639 satin bronze, 646 satin nickel, 651 bright chrome, 652 satin chrome, 689 aluminum, 690 statuary bronze, 691 light bronze, 693 gloss black, 695 dark bronze and 696 brass. 689 aluminum and 695 dark bronze are the two you'll see most often on existing commercial closers, so check the closer body before you pick.
5) Does swapping in this rod and shoe affect ADA compliance on the opening?
The 4030-79 is an ADA compliant component, but compliance is a function of the whole closer once installed. The rod and shoe sets the arm geometry, and the closer's opening force and closing speed still have to be adjusted at the valves after you fit it. Put the arm back at the correct preload and re-check door opening force before you call the opening done.
6) Does the 4030-79 include the closer arm and mounting screws?
What you get is the rod and shoe assembly, the frame-side portion of the arm linkage. It is catalogued as an installation accessory for the 4030 closer, so the closer body, the main arm and any bracket you need for your mounting style are ordered separately.
7) Is the LCN 4030-79 rated for high traffic openings?
It's a Grade 1 commercial component, which is the heavy-duty tier for door hardware and the right choice for entrances, corridors and stairwells that see constant use. It's not a residential-duty part.
