Leviton 61HOM-RW6 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a Leviton Home 6 Cat 6 jack snap into any standard keystone wall plate?
Yes. The Home 6 series Category 6 UTP jack uses the standard keystone format, so it drops into common keystone wall plates, faceplates, surface mount boxes, and keystone patch panels. If the plate opening on the job takes keystone modules, this jack seats in it.
2) Is this jack shielded, and can I use it on a shielded Cat 6 cable run?
It's an unshielded jack. The Home 6 Category 6 jack is UTP (unshielded twisted pair) construction, so it has no metal body or drain path to bond a cable shield. If your run is F/UTP or S/FTP and you need shield continuity to the rack, you need a shielded keystone jack and shielded plates instead.
3) Do I need a separate wall plate and box, or does the Cat 6 keystone jack come with one?
The jack is the module only. To finish an outlet you also need a keystone wall plate or faceplate with the right number of openings, plus a low-voltage mud ring or surface mount box behind it. On the rack end, the same jack loads into a keystone patch panel, so count your drops and order plates, panels, and jacks to match.
4) What is the Leviton part number for the white Cat 6 Home 6 keystone jack versus the black one?
White is 61HOM-RW6 and black is 61HOM-RE6. Those are the only two colors in the Home 6 Category 6 UTP jack, so the last part of the number is what you change when you spec the color.
5) Can I use a Cat 6 keystone jack for phone lines, or is it data only?
Both. The Home 6 Category 6 UTP jack is rated for data and voice, so a single outlet type covers network drops and telephone jacks in the same structured wiring system. That is the usual reason to standardize on one jack across a house or small office rather than mixing voice and data parts.
6) Is the Leviton Home 6 jack suitable for a commercial office build, or is it residential only?
It's built for residential and light-commercial structured cabling. Home 6 is Leviton's residential structured wiring line, so it suits home network and voice outlets, small offices, and renovation or new-construction low-voltage work. For a large commercial riser or a full data center backbone, a property or facility spec will usually call out a commercial-grade jack line instead.
7) I have white Decora plates already installed, will these jacks match?
The Home 6 Category 6 jack comes in White and Black, so white plates already on the wall pair with the 61HOM-RW6. Black plates or black device trim take the 61HOM-RE6. Those are the only two colors offered, so if your existing outlets are ivory, light almond, or gray, this jack will not color match.
8) Can I use a Cat 6 jack on Cat 5e cable that is already in the wall?
Terminating existing Cat 5e cable onto a Category 6 jack works electrically, but the channel only performs to the weakest component, so the link stays Cat 5e. The Home 6 jack is Category 6 rated, so it is the right choice when the cable is Cat 6 or when you plan to repull later and want the outlets already in place.
