Leviton LEV-7788-CR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is a 1-gang weatherproof cover alternative to the Leviton 7788-CR for a single receptacle?
The Mulberry 30552 (BAC1SV) is a weatherproof 1-gang single receptacle cover and is supplied in packs of 100. The Leviton 7788-CR is also a 1-gang weatherproof cover, molded from glass-filled thermoplastic with an industrial-grade self-closing lid, and it is sized for standard single-gang wiring devices including both switches and receptacles. If the opening takes a single receptacle only, the Mulberry cover is the closer match; if you need one cover that suits either a switch or a receptacle, the 7788-CR is the broader fit.
2) Is a self-closing cover like the Leviton 7788-CR better than a flip-lid cover for an outdoor receptacle?
A self-closing lid returns to the closed position on its own once the plug is pulled, so the opening is not left exposed because someone forgot to flip it shut. That is the main reason to choose the 7788-CR over a plain hinged flip lid on an unattended outdoor or wet-location device. What a self-closing lid does not do is stay closed over a cord that is plugged in full time; for a load that lives plugged in, an in-use (extra-duty) style enclosure is the correct choice instead.
3) What is the Leviton 7788-CR cover made of, and will it hold up outdoors on an industrial site?
It is molded from glass-filled thermoplastic, which is the glass-reinforced grade used for impact resistance rather than plain unfilled plastic, and it is an industrial-grade, weather-resistant device cover. That combination is aimed at exposed and outdoor wiring devices in industrial and commercial facilities rather than light residential duty.
4) I need weatherproof covers in bulk for a multi-family turnover job. Is the Leviton 7788-CR sold in a case?
The 7788-CR is catalogued as a single cover, one part number. If you want case quantities for a large turnover, two bulk options we carry are the Mulberry 30552 (BAC1SV) weatherproof 1-gang single receptacle cover in packs of 100, and the Mulberry 11525 (CV72R3330R) 5-inch square weatherproof cover, 30A, also packs of 100. Note the 30552 is cut for a single receptacle rather than the general-purpose device opening, and the 11525 is a 5-inch square cover, not a 1-gang plate.
5) Will the Leviton 7788-CR cover a single (non-duplex) receptacle like a 20A or 30A straight-blade device?
The 7788-CR is described for standard single-gang switches and receptacles, so match the lid opening to the device face you actually have. If the device is a single receptacle on a 1-gang box, the Mulberry 30552 (BAC1SV) is purpose-made as a weatherproof 1-gang single receptacle cover and is the more direct fit for that configuration.
6) Will a Mulberry 11525 cover substitute for a Leviton 7788-CR?
No. The Mulberry 11525 (CV72R3330R) is a 5 inch square weatherproof cover rated 30A in the 3330 series, built for a square box face, while the Leviton 7788-CR is a 1-gang weather-resistant cover with a self-closing lid for standard single-gang switches and receptacles. The two cover different openings, so they are not interchangeable.
7) What is the exact part number to order for the Leviton 1-gang self-closing weatherproof cover?
Order Leviton 7788-CR. That is the full manufacturer part number for the 1-gang weatherproof self-closing cover in glass-filled thermoplastic, and it is sold as a single model with no finish or size options to specify.
