1) What's the difference between Leviton 4700 and 4700-IG?
Grounding. The 4700 is the standard ground version and the 4700-IG is the isolated ground version, where the receptacle's ground terminal is insulated from the mounting strap and carried back on its own conductor to the panel ground. Order the IG if the circuit was designed with a separate insulated equipment grounding conductor for sensitive electronics or instrumentation; order the plain 4700 for a normal grounded branch circuit. Both are the same 15A, 125V industrial grade device.
2) Can I put a Leviton 4700 receptacle on a 20 amp circuit?
The 4700 is rated 15A at 125V, so it is not a 20A device. Under normal branch circuit practice a 15A receptacle may be used on a 20A circuit only where more than one receptacle is on that circuit; if the circuit feeds a single receptacle outlet, the receptacle has to match the 20A rating. For a dedicated 20A equipment drop, specify a 20A industrial grade device instead.
3) Is an industrial grade outlet worth it over a standard commercial one in a wash-down or plant area?
That's the case it's built for. The 4700 is an industrial grade, corrosion-resistant device intended for machine shops, manufacturing floors and heavy equipment hookups where humidity, chemical vapor and frequent plugging cycles kill ordinary residential-grade outlets. It is the device itself that's corrosion resistant, not an enclosure, so a wet or damp location still needs the appropriate box and cover for that environment.
