Leviton Specification Grade Tamper-Resistant Single Receptacle, Back or Side Wire, Stainless Steel

The Leviton Specification Grade Tamper-Resistant Single Receptacle combines a recessed clock-hanger design with a smooth-face, tamper-resistant construction for commercial installations that demand durability and code compliance. Rated 125 Volt with a 2-Pole, 3-Wire configuration and offered in 15 Amp or 20 Amp versions (NEMA 5-15R or 5-20R), this receptacle supports both back and side wire termination for flexible installation. The stainless steel finish delivers a clean, corrosion-resistant appearance suited to high-traffic commercial environments where reliability and appearance both matter.

Key Features

  • Tamper-Resistant Design: Internal shutter mechanism helps prevent unauthorized insertion of foreign objects, supporting tamper-resistant code requirements in commercial buildings.
  • Specification Grade Construction: Built to Specification Grade standards for enhanced durability, tighter tolerances, and long-term reliability in demanding commercial applications.
  • Recessed Clock-Hanger Housing: Smooth-face, recessed clock-hanger design allows the receptacle to sit flush behind wall clocks and similar fixtures for a clean finished look.
  • Back or Side Wire Termination: Flexible wiring options support either back-wire or side-wire connections, speeding up installation and accommodating different job-site preferences.
  • 125 Volt, 2-Pole, 3-Wire: Configured for standard 125V branch circuits with 2-Pole, 3-Wire grounding for safe, code-compliant operation.
  • Amperage and NEMA Options: Available in 15 Amp (NEMA 5-15R) or 20 Amp (NEMA 5-20R) configurations to match the amperage and receptacle configuration required by the circuit.
  • Stainless Steel Finish: Durable, corrosion-resistant stainless steel construction stands up to repeated use in commercial and institutional settings.

Leviton T5261-CH – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Leviton T5261-CH single receptacle fit behind a wall clock hanger?
That is what the recessed clock-hanger housing is for. The receptacle body sits back inside the housing with a smooth stainless steel face, so a clock plug and cord tuck in behind the clock instead of standing proud of the wall. It is a single receptacle, one outlet only, so nothing else shares the opening. The 15A version is the T5261-CH and the 20A version is the T5361-CH.
2) Should I order the 15 amp or the 20 amp version of this Leviton clock-hanger receptacle?
Match it to the branch circuit. The T5261-CH is 15A with a NEMA 5-15R face, and the T5361-CH is 20A with a 5-20R face, which has the T-slot neutral that accepts a 20A cord cap. Both are 125V, 2-pole, 3-wire. On a 20A circuit either is legal for a general-purpose outlet, but a 5-20R is what you install where a 20A plug has to land; on a 15A circuit use the 5-15R.
3) Does the Leviton T5261-CH meet the tamper-resistant receptacle requirement?
It is a listed tamper-resistant device. Internal shutters block insertion of a single foreign object and only open when both blades enter together, which is what a TR requirement is asking for. It carries cCSAus certification and is built to ANSI C-73 dimensional standards. Where your jurisdiction calls for TR receptacles in a given occupancy, this is the TR version of the clock-hanger outlet rather than a standard one.
4) Can I back wire this Leviton specification grade receptacle or do I have to use the side screws?
Either. It takes back wire or side wire termination, so you can land the conductors through the back clamps or wrap the side screws, whichever suits the box depth and how the branch circuit was roughed in. Three wires: hot, neutral, ground. Being a single receptacle there is no split-tab decision to make.
5) Is a specification grade receptacle worth it over a residential grade one for an office building?
Specification grade is the middle tier a commercial job should be on: tighter contact tolerances and heavier internals than residential grade, tested to a 30 degree Celsius maximum temperature rise and 2000 volts dielectric. For high-cycle public areas some specifiers go hospital grade instead, but for standard office and institutional branch circuits spec grade is the normal call. The body and face are nylon behind the stainless steel plate.
6) Do I need to buy a separate wall plate for the Leviton clock-hanger receptacle?
No separate plate. The stainless steel wall plate is part of the device, so the clock-hanger housing and its finished face come as one assembly. That also means you do not match it to a standard duplex plate opening, it is its own face.
7) Can I replace an existing clock outlet with this one to satisfy a tamper-resistant retrofit?
If what is coming out is a 125V clock-hanger receptacle on a standard 15A or 20A branch circuit, the swap is straight: same 2-pole, 3-wire grounding configuration, same 5-15R or 5-20R face depending on which you order, with TR shutters added. Confirm the circuit amperage first and take the matching model, T5261-CH for 15A or T5361-CH for 20A. Where the old device is a duplex in a standard box rather than a clock hanger, this is not a like-for-like part.
8) Will a stainless steel receptacle hold up in a kitchen or a corridor that gets washed down?
The stainless steel face resists corrosion and scuffing better than a painted or thermoplastic plate, which is why it gets specified in food service areas, corridors and other places that see carts and cleaning. The nylon body and face carry a UL94 V-2 flammability rating. It is not a weatherproof or wet-location device, so keep it to interior locations.
