Leviton T5632-T – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Leviton T5632 USB receptacle fit a standard single-gang box with a Decora wallplate?
Yes. The T5632 is a Decora style device, so it takes a standard Decora (decorator) rectangular opening wallplate rather than a duplex-style plate. It is a single device occupying one gang position, and it coordinates with other Decora switches and receptacles on the same opening.
2) Is this Leviton USB outlet tamper-resistant for a bedroom or child-occupied dwelling unit?
It is a tamper-resistant device with an internal shutter mechanism that blocks foreign object insertion. That is the type required in dwelling unit receptacle locations, so it works where TR receptacles are called for in bedrooms and living areas.
3) What amperage and voltage is this receptacle rated for, and can I put it on my kitchen 20-amp circuit?
The T5632 is rated 15 amps at 125 volts AC with a NEMA 5-15R face. A 15A receptacle is permitted on a 20-amp branch circuit when more than one receptacle is on that circuit, which is the usual case on a residential multi-outlet kitchen circuit. If the circuit serves a single receptacle only, it needs a 20A device instead.
4) Is this a commercial or spec grade receptacle? I'm specifying for an apartment building.
It is residential grade, built to Leviton's residential specification. For multi-family common areas, corridors or anywhere with high plug cycling, spec a commercial or hospital grade device instead. Residential grade is appropriate inside the dwelling units themselves.
5) What colors does the Leviton T5632 come in, and will it match my existing devices?
Two colors: Light Almond (T5632-T) and White (T5632-W). If the other openings in the unit are ivory or almond rather than light almond, the shade will read slightly off, so match to the wallplate you already have.
6) What torque should I use on the terminal screws when wiring this Leviton receptacle?
Tighten the terminals to 12 to 14 pound inches. Use a torque screwdriver; NEC now requires terminations be made to the manufacturer's stated torque value.
7) Does this Leviton USB receptacle have a ground terminal, and what is the housing made of?
It is a grounding device, so it has a ground terminal and needs an equipment grounding conductor at the box. Body and cover are both thermoplastic, rated V-0 per UL 94 for flammability.
8) Will a USB receptacle like this fit in a shallow old work box during a remodel?
Combination USB devices are deeper than a plain duplex receptacle because the charging electronics sit behind the face. On retrofit work, check the box depth and the existing conductor slack before committing; a standard-depth duplex opening is often tight. The T5632 is a single Decora-opening device, so the wallplate is the easy part, the box volume is what to verify.
9) Can I use this receptacle to feed a small motor load like a garbage disposal or fan?
It carries a 1/2 horsepower rating, so it handles a plug-connected motor load up to that size at 125 volts. Ambient operating temperature is rated to 40 degrees Celsius.
10) Where can I get the Leviton T5632 spec sheet for a submittal?
Leviton's technical information document for the T5632 is published here: https://zensupply.com/content/pdf/leviton/technical-information-9b1b72.pdf. That is the sheet to attach for an electrical submittal along with the 15A 125V NEMA 5-15R rating.
