Kraloy 78159 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the LL in a Type LL PVC access fitting mean, and when do I use it instead of an LB or LR?
Type LL, LB and LR describe where the removable cover and the second opening sit relative to the conduit run. On an LL body the branch turns to the left as you face the cover; an LR turns right, and an LB turns to the back (behind the cover). Pick the letter by the direction your run has to turn at the wall or corner. The Kraloy LL30 is the left-turn version in 3 inch PVC.
2) Is the Kraloy 3 inch Type LL fitting approved for commercial and industrial electrical work?
It is CSA certified and UL listed, built to UL 514C and CSA C22.2 No. 85. Those are the standards for nonmetallic outlet boxes, flush-device boxes and covers, which is what an inspector will look for on a PVC conduit body. It is also NAFTA compliant.
3) Will a PVC Type LL conduit body hold up in a wash-down or corrosive environment?
Yes. It is made from high impact PVC, which is why Kraloy lists it for car washes, fish plants, food processing plants, water and sewage treatment plants, pulp and paper, steel mills, mines and marinas. PVC does not rust the way a cast metal conduit body will in constant moisture or chemical exposure.
4) Does the Kraloy LL30 come with the cover and gasket, or do I order those separately?
It ships fully assembled with no loose or missing parts, so the cover comes with the body. What you supply on the job is the PVC solvent cement for the two hub connections and whatever mounting hardware your surface calls for.
5) Can I use a 3 inch PVC LL access fitting on an outdoor street lighting or parking garage run?
That is one of its listed uses. Kraloy calls out street and highway lighting, parking garages, bridges and tunnels, airports, subways and utility work for this fitting, along with residential, cable and communications runs. It is a pull and access point in a 3 inch PVC conduit system, not a device box.
6) How do I order the exact Kraloy 3 inch Type LL access fitting?
Order it as Kraloy LL30, manufacturer part number 78159 (catalogued 078159). It is a single configuration, so there is no finish, hand or trim option to specify. Confirm the letter in the model, LL30, since the LB and LR bodies in the same 3 inch size turn the opposite way.
