1) What does a Locknetics CS Series lip extension actually do on an electric strike?
A lip extension replaces the standard strike lip with a longer one so the latchbolt has something to catch when the door sits proud of the frame or the strike is set back in the jamb. On the CS Series it comes in three lengths, 1/2 inch, 1 inch, and 2 inch, ordered as CSLE-.5, CSLE-1, and CSLE-2. Pick the length by how far the strike face is recessed from the door face; too short and the latch skips past the keeper, too long and the lip catches traffic in the opening.
2) Will a CS Series lip extension work with a lockset that has a deadbolt?
No. The CS Series strike arrangement is meant for cylindrical and mortise locksets without a deadbolt, on wood or metal doors. If the opening has a mortise lock with a deadbolt, you need a strike built to accept both the latch and the bolt, not this one.
3) How big a latchbolt will the Locknetics CS strike take?
Up to a 3/4 inch latchbolt. That covers standard commercial cylindrical latches and most mortise latchbolts without a deadbolt. Measure the projection of the existing latch before ordering a lip extension, since the lip length only fixes the gap between door and frame, it does not change how much bolt the keeper will accept.
4) What size cutout does a Locknetics CS Series electric strike need in the frame?
The strike body measures 3-3/8 x 1-11/16 x 1-3/16 inches less the face plate, so that is the pocket you have to prep in the jamb. Face plates ship with the strike in both radius corner and square corner, 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches, so you can match the existing frame prep either way.
5) Is the Locknetics CS electric strike fail safe or fail secure, and what voltage does it draw?
It is field selectable low profile fail safe or fail secure, so one part covers both an egress opening that must release on power loss and a secured opening that must stay locked. Power is dual voltage 12/24 VDC, drawing 0.3 A at 12 V and 0.15 A at 24 V. Size the power supply off whichever voltage you run, and note the strike has a built in spike suppressor so you are not adding a diode at the strike.
6) Which lip extension length do I order for my Locknetics CS strike?
Measure from the face of the installed strike lip to the point the latchbolt actually crosses, and order the extension that closes that distance: CSLE-.5 adds 1/2 inch, CSLE-1 adds 1 inch, CSLE-2 adds 2 inch. Those three are the whole range. Extensions are most often needed where a frame has been shimmed, where the door is a different thickness than the frame was prepped for, or on a retrofit where the old strike sat deeper in the jamb.
7) Do I have to order the face plate separately for a Locknetics CS strike?
No, both face plates come in the box. You get a radius corner and a square corner plate, each 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches, plus mounting tabs. The lip extension is the separate item, ordered by length when the standard lip does not reach the latch.
8) Can the CS Series strike tell my access control panel whether the door is actually latched?
Yes, it has latchbolt monitoring built in, so the panel gets a signal that the latch is seated in the keeper rather than just that the strike was energized. That is the difference between knowing the door was released and knowing it relatched behind the person who went through.
