1) What is a Locknetics EGB-100 call point actually for, and does it need power to work?
The EGB-100 is a resettable emergency call point that releases an electric locking device on a door so people can get out. It works when pressed even with no power supply present, which is why these get mounted on fire escape doors. Once it has been operated, a key that comes with the unit puts it back to normal mode, so nothing has to be replaced to restore the door.
2) Do I have to replace a glass element after someone uses the EGB-100?
No glass to replace. The EGB-100 is a non-glass plastic unit, and a provided key resets it to normal mode after it has been operated. That is the practical difference from a break-glass call point: no consumable elements to stock, which is why the durable plastic version gets specified in high traffic areas.
3) Does the EGB-100 sound an alarm on its own, or do I need a separate sounder?
There is an 80db buzzer built into the unit, so a local audible warning at the door does not need a separate sounder wired in. The blue backlight also keeps the station visible on a dark escape route. If you want the alarm reported back to a panel as well, use the spare pole of the DPDT contacts for that.
4) What is the difference between the EGB-100-G and the EGB-100-R?
Case color only. The EGB-100-G has a green case and the EGB-100-R a red case; both are the resettable call point with blue back light, built-in buzzer and D.P.D.T. switch. Green is the usual pick for a door release station so it is not confused with a red fire alarm pull, and red where the site standard wants the emergency device in red.
5) How is the Locknetics EGB-100 wired in, and can I pre-wire the back box before hanging the unit?
The EGB-100 uses a detachable terminal block, so the field wiring can be landed and the unit plugged on afterward, and it comes off the same way for service without pulling conductors out one at a time. Wiring is a 12/24 VDC supply through the D.P.D.T. contacts, which are rated 5A at 125VAC.
6) Can I use one emergency call point to release several doors, or do I need one per opening?
Wire one per opening if each door has its own lock power. The EGB-100's D.P.D.T. contacts are rated 5A at 125VAC, so a single station can break a lock circuit carrying several locks if they share one supply run, but the release then drops every door on that run at once. Standard practice on fire escape doors is a station at each door so the release is local to the person using it.
7) Is the EGB-100 call point suitable for a commercial building or is it a residential device?
Commercial. The EGB-100 is a commercial-rated emergency call point, and the non-glass plastic body is specified for high traffic areas, which is what makes it hold up in schools, hospitality and multi-family corridors where a glass-element station gets broken accidentally.
