Either one. Neither. Fail-safe and fail-secure are field selectable on the MDS100, so one part covers both modes and you set it at install. That matters on a mixed building: an egress or stair door that has to release on a fire alarm and a storeroom door that must stay locked through a power loss can be the same stock item.
