1) What's the difference between the Locknetics MPB-100 and the MPB-100-N push to exit button?
Both are the same metal 'Push to Exit' button with an SPDT switch. The difference is the plate: the MPB-100 mounts on a standard single gang plate, while the MPB-100-N uses a narrow plate. Pick the narrow version when you're mounting on a mullion or a jamb where a full single gang plate won't sit flat.
2) Will the Locknetics MPB-100 work on a 12V or 24V DC maglock circuit?
Yes. The MPB-100 is rated for 12/24 VDC, and its SPDT contact is rated 5A at 125VAC, so it handles the low-voltage release circuit on a maglock or electric strike. Because the switch is momentary, it breaks the circuit only while pressed and restores the lock when released.
3) Can I wire a Locknetics MPB-100 for both normally open and normally closed?
Yes. The button uses a single pole double throw contact, so you get a common, a normally open and a normally closed terminal off the one switch. Wire NC to break a maglock's power on press, or NO to signal a controller input. Only one throw is used at a time.
4) Is the MPB-100 a momentary or maintained push button?
Momentary action. The contact changes state only while the button is held and returns as soon as you let go, which is what you want for a request to exit release. If the job needs the door to stay unlocked after one press, this button won't do it on its own; you'd pair it with a timer or relay module to hold the release.
5) Is this push to exit button tough enough for a school or apartment lobby where it gets abused?
It's built for that. The actuator is vandal resistant brass with nickel plating and the plate is aluminum, rather than the plastic button used on lighter-duty stations, and Locknetics rates the MPB-100 for commercial use. That makes it a reasonable standardization choice across high-traffic exits in multi-family, education and healthcare buildings.
6) Does the Locknetics push button include the lock power supply or relay?
No. The MPB-100 is just the switch and plate, it interrupts or signals a circuit you already have. You still need the locking device, a power supply, and any timer or relay if the release has to be delayed or held. Locknetics covers those separately in its access control accessory line, which also includes digital keypads and specialty switches.
7) Can the MPB-100 mount in a standard electrical box?
The standard MPB-100 uses a single gang plate, so it drops onto a conventional single gang box or mud ring. If your box is already in the wall on a normal gang cut-out, order the standard version, not the narrow plate MPB-100-N.
8) Does the MPB-100 come already labeled Push to Exit, or do I need to add a label?
The face is factory labeled "Push to Exit," so no field labeling is needed for a standard egress application. If the opening calls for different wording, this isn't the part to modify, choose a station engraved for that function instead.
