Marks USA 175RF SFIC - Storeroom Clutched Lever Lockset, Small Format IC, Less Core, 2-3/4in Backset, ANSI Strike, Grade 2

Cylindrical locksets are designed for use in situations where durability is the deciding factor. Our cylindrical lock chassis are all constructed with cast retractors on bronze roller bearings. This strong, durable component gives our cylindrical sets the ability to last millions of cycles and is available in knob and lever sets. The Survivor leverset has a unique "clutch" mechanism that radically reduces the wear and abuse that typical cylindrical lever sets endure. When locked, the levers of the Survivor disengage from the retractor and other interior mechanisms of the lock. The levers of the Survivor swing freely, without resistance. This reduces the amount of wear on lock components and eliminates "lever droop". The use of a clutch results in longer lasting, lower maintenance, eloquent solution.

Marks USA 175RF26D-3/4 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Marks USA 175RF storeroom lever come with a cylinder, or do I need to supply my own core?
It ships less core. The 175RF is prepped for a small format interchangeable core, so you supply an SFIC core in your own keyway and keying to bring it onto an existing master key system. That is why locksmiths and facilities standardizing on one SFIC system buy it this way.
2) What door thickness does the Marks 175RF lockset fit, and can it go on a 1-3/8 inch door?
Standard range is 1-5/8 to 1-7/8 inches, which covers a 1-3/4 inch commercial door. For a 1-3/8 inch door you need the K1904 spacer.
3) Will the Marks 175RF latch into the strike prep I already have in my frame?
The latch has a 1-1/8 x 2-1/4 inch face with a 1/2 inch deadlocking throw, and the lock ships with the #1145 ASA (ANSI) strike. If your frame is already prepped for an ASA strike cutout, it drops in. A frame with a small full-lip strike prep will need to be modified or the existing strike reused where the throw allows.
4) Is the 175RF a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset lock?
The 175RF is furnished with a 2-3/4 inch backset, which is the usual commercial bore spacing. The Survivor cylindrical line is offered in both 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inch backsets, so if your existing doors are bored at 2-3/8 inches you need the other backset rather than this one.
5) What does storeroom function mean on this lever, and is it the right choice for a mechanical room or supply closet?
Storeroom (Marks function F) keeps the outside lever locked at all times. Entry from outside is by key only, the inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress, and the door relocks behind you. That is the standard choice for storage, electrical, and mechanical rooms where you never want the door left unsecured. If you need staff to be able to leave the door unlocked during the day, use an entry/office function instead.
6) Can I use the Marks 175RF on a fire rated door?
Yes. The Survivor cylindrical series carries a 3-hour fire rating, and the lock is UL Listed with ANSI/BHMA compliance. The latch is deadlocking, which is what a fire door needs to stay latched under pressure.
7) What is a comparable keyed cylindrical lever lockset to the Marks USA 175RF if I need a Grade 1 mechanical lock instead of Grade 2?
The Marks USA 175RF is a Grade 2 cylindrical storeroom lockset. If the spec calls for Grade 1 mechanical keyed lever hardware, the Dorma C853 entry keyed single cylinder lever lockset is Grade 1 and fits doors 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch thick, and the Dorma C150 heavy-duty cylindrical lock is Grade 1 in an entry/office function for the same 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch door range. Both are entry/entrance function rather than storeroom, so the outside lever behavior differs from the 175RF.
8) I do not need a keyed storeroom lock on every door in the corridor - what cylindrical lever should I use for the non-keyed openings?
The Marks USA 175RF is a keyed storeroom lockset that ships less core for a small format interchangeable cylinder. For openings that need no key, the Orca Hardware OCL210 is a Grade 2 passage cylindrical lockset and the Orca OCL240 is a Grade 2 privacy cylindrical lockset, both medium duty. The Cal-Royal CAL30 is a Grade 1 passage lock and the CAL20 a Grade 1 privacy lock, both for doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch thick. Dorma CL701 is a Grade 2 single dummy non-keyed lever for a door leaf that does not latch at all.
9) Can I use the Marks USA 175RF where I want to eliminate keys and use a code instead?
No - the 175RF is a mechanical cylindrical lock that takes a small format interchangeable core and a key. For code entry on a cylindrical prep, the Alarm Lock Trilogy T2 DL2700 is a Grade 1 standalone electronic cylindrical entrance lock with a digital keypad, 100 user codes, and IC/SFIC compatibility for doors 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch, which matches the 175RF door thickness range. The BEST 9KZ EZ Series is an electronic keypad cylindrical lock with key override if you want both a code and a key. Lockey 1600 is a mechanical keyless knob lock with adjustable backset and no batteries.
10) Is the Schlage NDEB a direct substitute for the Marks USA 175RF storeroom lockset?
Not a direct one. The Schlage NDEB is a Grade 1 heavy duty ENGAGE Series wireless cylindrical lock with 2.4 GHz Bluetooth Low Energy that offers storeroom, office, privacy and apartment functions on doors 1-5/8 inch to 2 inch, so it covers the storeroom function and overlaps the 175RF door range. The difference is that the 175RF is a purely mechanical Grade 2 clutched lever lockset keyed by a small format interchangeable core, with no electronics, credentials, or commissioning. Use the NDEB when access needs to be managed electronically and the 175RF when it needs to be keyed.
11) What is the closest mechanical keyed lever lockset to the Marks USA 175RF that also uses a 2-3/4 inch backset and an ASA strike?
The Marks USA 175RF uses a 2-3/4 inch backset with a #1145 ASA strike and a 1-1/8 inch by 2-1/4 inch latch front. The Stanley Security QCL150 is a keyed entry lever with rose, less cylinder, a square 2-3/4 inch backset latch and a 4-7/8 inch by 1-1/4 inch ASA strike, listed as Grade 2 in the QCL100 Series. The Stanley QCL200 is a cylindrical lock keyed different in the SC keyway with a 118F ANSI 1-1/8 inch by 2-3/4 inch strike. Both are entrance rather than storeroom function, and the QCL200 comes keyed rather than less core.
12) What is the clutch on the Marks Survivor lever actually doing for me in a high abuse building?
When the lock is secured, the levers disengage from the retractor and swing free instead of loading the internal mechanism. Someone hanging on the lever or forcing it down is turning nothing, so you do not get lever droop and the chassis does not wear out. Marks rates the design past 3.6 million cycles, well beyond BHMA Grade 1 test spec. For schools, dorms, and multi-family corridors this is the difference between replacing levers every year and not.
13) How does the 175RF mount, and will the roses cover the old lock's marks on the door?
The roses are thru-bolted with two #10 thru-bolts and are spring loaded, 3-1/4 inches in diameter. Thru-bolting is what keeps a lever tight in a high traffic opening. The 3-1/4 inch rose gives you some coverage around an existing 2-1/8 inch cross bore, but measure any wear ring on the door before assuming it hides.
14) I need to match the 175RF storeroom lever with passage and privacy doors on the same job. Can I stay in the same series?
Yes. The Survivor cylindrical family runs the full function range on the same chassis and lever, so you can spec passage (N), privacy (L), classroom (S), entry (AB), institution (DW), vestibule (DA), and dummy trim (DO or DT) alongside the storeroom (F) lock and keep one look and one latch across the building. Order the finish consistently so corridors match.
15) Do I get keys with the Marks 175RF SFIC version?
No keys or core come with the SFIC less-core version, since the whole point is that you install your own interchangeable core and key it to your system. The standard-cylinder Survivor locks are the ones furnished with a Marks C keyway 6-pin cylinder and two keys.
16) The 175RF fits 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch doors - what cylindrical lever works on a thinner 1-3/8 inch door or a thicker 2-1/4 inch door?
The Marks USA 175RF covers 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch, and a K1904 spacer is called out for a 1-3/8 inch door. If you would rather use a lock that covers the thickness natively, the Dorma C150 and Dorma C853 both list 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch, the Cal-Royal CAL20 and CAL30 list 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, and the Lockey 1600 and Lockey 2830 keyless knob locks list 1-1/8 inch to 2 inch. Note that only the Dorma units in that group are keyed lever locks.
17) For a classroom door I was going to use the Marks USA 175RF storeroom function - what else should I look at?
The Marks USA 175RF is catalogued in the storeroom function with a 2-3/4 inch backset and ANSI strike. If the opening is a classroom, the TownSteel XCE-2000 and XCE-9000 are Grade 1 heavy duty electronic cylindrical locksets with keypads in a classroom function for doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch, the XCE-9000 being the classroom intruder version. The TownSteel FCE-2000 and FCE-4000 are Grade 1 RFID classroom locksets for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Schlage XE360M is a Grade 1 wireless tubular lock in a classroom/storeroom function for 1-3/4 inch doors.
18) I only need trim on one side of the door, not a working storeroom lock - what replaces the 175RF there?
The Marks USA 175RF is a working storeroom lockset with a deadlocking latch and 1/2 inch throw, so it is more hardware than a fixed-trim opening needs. For pull-only trim, the Dorma C501 is a single dummy keyless lever lockset, Grade 2, for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch; the Dorma CL701 is a Grade 2 single dummy non-keyed lever; and the Orca OCL2170 is a Grade 2 half dummy lever, medium duty. None of these latch or key.
19) The Marks USA 175RF is Grade 2 but the Orca OCL250 is also Grade 2 - what is the difference for a keyed opening?
Both are Grade 2 cylindrical locksets. The Orca Hardware OCL250 is a keyed entrance cylindrical lockset rated medium duty. The Marks USA 175RF is a commercial storeroom function with a clutched lever that disengages when locked to reduce wear and prevent lever droop, ships less core for a small format interchangeable cylinder, and carries ANSI/BHMA and UL listing. The functional split matters most: an entrance lock can be left unlocked from the inside button, while the 175RF storeroom function keeps the outside lever locked at all times.
20) Would the Kwikset 912TNL SmartCode work as a substitute for the Marks USA 175RF on a commercial storeroom door?
They are not equivalents. The Kwikset 912TNL ZW500 SmartCode is an electronic Tustin lever with Z-Wave technology, keyed one side, for doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch. The Marks USA 175RF is a commercial mechanical cylindrical storeroom lockset that is ANSI/BHMA and UL Listed with a small format interchangeable core prep, which is what a keyed facility masterkey system and a fire-rated opening generally call for. If you want electronic access on a commercial cylindrical prep instead, the Alarm Lock DL5200 double-sided electronic cylindrical lock covers 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch doors.
21) I need an audit trail on the storeroom door - what takes the place of the Marks USA 175RF?
A mechanical keyed lockset like the Marks USA 175RF leaves no record of who entered. The Alarm Lock T3 DL3075 is a Grade 1 electronic cylindrical lock with audit trail and keypad access in the DL3200 Series, and the Alarm Lock Trilogy T2 DL2700 is a Grade 1 standalone electronic cylindrical entrance lock with 100 user codes and IC/SFIC compatibility, so existing small format cores can carry over. The SDC E75 Series is a battery-powered electronic cylindrical lockset with keypad access control for doors 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/8 inch.
22) Can the Marks USA 175RF be tied into an access control system for remote release?
No - the 175RF is a mechanical cylindrical lockset with no wiring or electronics. For a cylindrical opening that must release from a panel, the SDC Electra 7200 Series is a solenoid controlled cylindrical lock with dual voltage 12/24VDC for doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch. For credential-based control without running wire to the door, the Accentra nexTouch NTB613 is a Grade 1 cylindrical keypad lock with pushbutton entry, and the CENTRIOS CEB100 Series is a Grade 1 smart Bluetooth cylindrical lock.
23) What finishes does the Marks 175RF storeroom lever come in?
Two finishes are offered on the SFIC storeroom version: US10B oil-rubbed dark bronze and US26D satin chrome. Satin chrome is the usual match for existing brushed chrome or stainless trim in schools and offices; dark bronze suits hospitality and exterior bronze packages.
