The shackle on the Master Lock 3 Series 3KL is 9/32 inch (7mm) in diameter, stands 1-1/2 inch (38mm) tall, and has a 5/8 inch clearance between the legs. So the hasp staple or chain link has to accept a 9/32 inch bar, and whatever you are locking through cannot be thicker than 5/8 inch across with more than 1-1/2 inch of height to clear. For thicker hasps or wrapping a chain, you need a longer shackle version.

Yes. The 3KL is offered keyed alike (KA), so you can order a batch that all open on the same key, and you can pick from twenty published key codes including 3779, 3616, 3500 and 0344. If you already run W1 cylinder locks on the property, order keyed alike to that existing key number and the new locks fall into the same system. If you want every lock on its own key instead, order the keyed different (KD) option.

No. The 3KL uses a non-rekeyable 4-pin W1 cylinder, so once it is keyed it stays on that key. If a key goes missing on a property, you replace the lock rather than repin it. For fleets where you expect key turnover, plan on keyed alike sets you can swap out in blocks, or specify a rekeyable padlock line instead.

Only if those existing locks use the W1 cylinder. The 3KL is a 4-pin W1 keyway, and keyed alike orders can be matched to other W1 locks by key number. Pull one of your current keys and check the number stamped on it against the W1 codes; if the existing locks are on a different Master Lock keyway or another brand, the 3KL will not share keys with them.

The 3KL has a 1-9/16 inch (40mm) laminated steel body and a hardened steel shackle, with dual ball bearing locking that resists prying and a body built to resist drilling. That is a general-purpose padlock for gates, lockers, cabinets and storage doors. Master Lock's own classification for it is residential rather than commercial-duty, so for high-risk exterior openings or anything an insurer is scrutinizing, step up to a heavier shrouded or boron shackle lock.
