Medeco 32-0475H-Y02 Rim Cylinder Housing, 6-Pin, LFIC Prep, Less Core, CT-Y02 Horizontal Tailpiece

Medeco 4 Large Format Interchangeable Core (LFIC) cylinders are UL 437 listed to stand up to drilling, picking, and other forms of physical attack.

They meet ANSI 156.30, assuring patent protected key control and physical strength. And the ANSI A156.5 Grade 1 certification assures consistent quality for heavy use applications.

M4 LFICs allow cores to be changed without having to take the entire lock apart.

LFIC cylinders are often used in commercial applications where personnel turnover is higher and where rapid rekeying is needed.

Features
  • Medeco 4 cylinders meet or exceed ANSI/BHMA A156.30 and 156.5 Grade 1 high security criteria, which includes testing for strength, durability, and resistance to surreptitious entry along with patented key control.
  • Medeco 4's cylinder design includes 4 Side Pins made up of 3 Finger Pins and 1 Lift Pin. The Lift Pin is activated by contact with the movable element in the key, providing a high level of pick resistance.
  • Patented key control provides protection against the unauthorized duplication of keys.
  • UL 437 listing provides assurance that cylinders meet universal standards for endurance, drill and pick resistance, and resistance against other types of forced attack.
  • Patented movable element in the key deters unauthorized 3D printed copies of keys or blanks.
  • Angled cuts on the keys, along with rotating pins, provide added dimensions that dramatically increase key combinations. Secondary side pin bitings provide even greater combinations, making very large systems possible.
  • Cylinder side pins and a lift pin which engage the sidebar prevent the key from turning until the elements are aligned in the correct position, protecting against bumping and picking.
  • If you are able to cut Biaxial or Medeco 3 keys, you are able to cut Medeco 4 keys on the same equipment.
  • Finger Pins work with Secondary Side cuts on the key to provide increased security and greater potential combinations.
  • Enable quick and easy cylinder change using a special control key to remove the cylinder (core) from the lock housing.
  • Offers increased security without costly and time-consuming rekeying.
  • Solid brass construction provides high quality and long cylinder life.
  • Ability to key with non-interchangeable core cylinders for cost effective system flexibility.

Medeco 32-0475H-26-Y02 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Medeco 32-0475H-Y02 rim cylinder come with a core, or do I have to order one separately?
It ships less core. The 32-0475H-Y02 is the rim cylinder housing only, prepped to accept a large format interchangeable core, so you also need a Medeco 4 LFIC core keyed to your system. That is the point of the LFIC format: the housing stays in the door and the core drops in or out with a control key, so a lost key or a staff change is a core swap, not a lock teardown.
2) What is the difference between the horizontal tailpiece CT-Y02 and a vertical tailpiece rim cylinder?
The tailpiece orientation has to match the way the lock body behind the door takes its drive. The 32-0475H-Y02 carries the CT-Y02 horizontal tailpiece; if the exit device or rim lock you are feeding wants a vertical tailpiece, this is the wrong part number and you want the vertical version instead. Schlage splits the same way in its 20-series: the 20-022 is the horizontal tailpiece cam rim cylinder, the 20-021 is the vertical. Pull the old cylinder and look at the tail before you order.
3) Is the Medeco 32-0475H rim cylinder high security, and what standards does it actually meet?
UL 437 listed and ULC listed, and it meets ANSI/BHMA A156.30 for high security key control along with ANSI/BHMA A156.5 Grade 1. The UL 437 listing is the one an institutional spec usually calls for: it covers drill and pick resistance and forced attack. Keys are utility patented (US patent 11624206), so duplication runs through authorized dealers only.
4) Can I use a 5-pin Medeco core in this 6-pin rim housing?
No. The 32-0475H-Y02 is built 6-pin, and the core has to match the housing's pin count. Medeco 4 cylinders are offered in both 5 pin and 6 pin, so if your existing system is keyed 5-pin you want the 5-pin housing, not this one. Check what the rest of the building is keyed to before you commit, because mixing pin counts inside one masterkey system is where these jobs go wrong.
5) Is a Medeco LFIC core the same as a BEST small format core, and can I swap one into the other?
Not interchangeable. This housing is prepped for large format interchangeable core, and large format and small format cores are different sizes with different housings. If your building is already standardized on BEST style cores, look at the BEST 1C 5-pin core or the 1CDF drill resistant 7-pin core in the 150 series rather than trying to fit a Medeco 4 LFIC into that hardware. Going the other way, moving a facility onto Medeco 4 means changing the housings as well as the cores.
6) The door is an aluminum storefront with an Adams Rite deadlock. Is the Medeco 32-0475H the right cylinder?
No. The 32-0475H is a rim cylinder housing for rim-prepped hardware. Aluminum storefront openings running an Adams Rite MS1847 deadlock take the Adams Rite 4024 cylinder pull with trim plate mounting or the 4025 five pin tumbler cylinder pull with through-screws, both designed for the MS1847 deadlock/deadlatch. For a narrow mortise prep the Adams Rite 4036 mortise cylinder is Grade 1 in the 4036 series with a 1/2 inch minimum door thickness. On a wood door running the Adams Rite 5017 deadlock, the 4026 five pin tumbler cylinder pull is the matching part.
7) What is the closest equivalent to the Medeco 32-0475H-Y02 rim cylinder housing if the opening does not need a large format interchangeable core?
The Medeco 32-0475H is a rim cylinder housing built to take a large format interchangeable core, shipped less core with a horizontal tailpiece. If the opening is served by a conventional keyed rim cylinder instead, the Schlage Commercial 20-022 is a 6-pin rim cylinder with a horizontal tailpiece cam supplied with 2 keys. That one arrives complete and keyed, rather than as a housing waiting on a core, so the rekey method differs: the Schlage is pinned in the cylinder, the Medeco housing is rekeyed by swapping the core with a control key.
8) The exit device cam needs a vertical tailpiece instead of horizontal. What rim cylinder covers that?
The Medeco 32-0475H-Y02 carries the CT-Y02 horizontal tailpiece, so it will not serve a device that requires a vertical tail. The Schlage Commercial 20-021 is a 6-pin rim cylinder with a vertical tailpiece cam and 2 keys. Where the device cam orientation is uncertain, the Schlage 20-057 is a 6-pin FSIC rim cylinder with a convertible tailpiece cam that can be set either way.
9) Will a full size interchangeable core drop into the Medeco 32-0475H rim housing?
No. The 32-0475H is prepped for a large format interchangeable core in the Medeco 4 system, which is UL 437 listed and certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.30 and A156.5 Grade 1. Full size interchangeable core parts are a separate core family: the Schlage 20-057 is a 6-pin FSIC rim cylinder, and the Schlage 20-057-C is an FSIC core in C keyway, 643E aged bronze. A facility standardizing on FSIC should order the FSIC rim cylinder and core together rather than pairing an FSIC core with an LFIC housing.
10) What is the equivalent rim cylinder housing from Corbin Russwin?
The Corbin Russwin 3070 is a 6-pin rim cylinder housing with a 1-7/8 inch tailpiece, in the 3000 series. Like the Medeco 32-0475H it is a housing with a 6-pin rim format, so it suits a facility already standardized on Corbin Russwin keying. The Medeco 32-0475H is prepped for a large format interchangeable core and is shipped less core, so the two differ in how the keying is carried: the Medeco housing takes a removable M4 LFIC core, and the tailpiece length on the Corbin Russwin 3070 should be checked against the device cam before ordering.
11) The lock is a mortise lock, not a rim device. What takes the place of the Medeco 32-0475H there?
The 32-0475H is a rim format housing and will not fit a mortise lock case. For mortise openings the Corbin Russwin 1080 is a 1-1/2 inch LFIC mortise cylinder, 6-pin, for Schlage L9000 mortise locks with an A01 cloverleaf cam, which keeps the interchangeable core method the Medeco housing uses. If the mortise lock takes a conventional keyed cylinder, the Corbin Russwin 1000 Grade 1 mortise cylinder is 1-1/2 inch with an A02 straight cam, and the Corbin Russwin 1070 Grade 1 6-pin mortise housing is 1-1/4 inch with an A01 cloverleaf cam. Cam style and cylinder length both have to match the lock case.
12) Which finishes does the Medeco 32-0475H rim cylinder housing come in, and can I match my existing exit device trim?
Nine finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 609 antique brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 622 black, 624 dark bronze, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. Those are standard BHMA finish numbers, so if your existing exit device trim is specified as 626 or 613 the cylinder ring will match it across the building without eyeballing samples.
13) I need a rim cylinder for an exit device but not high security. What is a cheaper alternative to Medeco?
If patented key control is not part of the spec, the Schlage Commercial 20-022 is a 6-pin rim cylinder with a horizontal tailpiece cam and two keys, matching the tailpiece orientation of the Medeco 32-0475H-Y02 but as a standard commercial cylinder rather than a UL 437 high security one. The Corbin Russwin 3070 is another 6-pin rim cylinder housing, supplied with a 1-7/8 inch tailpiece. You give up the patented key control and the drill resistance; you keep the rim format.
14) Do I need new key machines or blanks to cut Medeco 4 keys?
If your shop already cuts Biaxial or Medeco 3 keys, the same equipment cuts Medeco 4. What you do need is access to Medeco blanks, which are restricted and only available through authorized dealers because the keys are utility patented. The movable element in the key is also what defeats 3D printed copies, so a facility on this system is not going to see keys duplicated at a hardware store.
15) Can I put Medeco 4 LFIC cylinders on some doors and keep standard cylinders on the rest of the building?
Yes, and that is a common way to phase it in. Medeco 4 keys with non-interchangeable core cylinders, so you can run one system across LFIC and conventional cylinders, and it integrates with M4 BiLevel where you want a different security level opening by opening. Secondary side pin bittings expand the masterkeying, which is what makes large systems workable. The rim housing is one of several formats: mortise, key-in-knob, padlocks and bored deadlatches and deadbolts prepped for LFIC use the same core.
16) Our tenants turn over constantly and rekeying is killing us. Does an LFIC rim cylinder fix that?
That is exactly the case LFIC is built for. Changing the keying on the 32-0475H-Y02 means pulling the core with a control key and dropping a new one in, without taking the lock apart or pulling the device off the door. For a property manager running apartments or an office building with turnover, a lost key becomes a two minute core swap at that opening instead of a locksmith visit and a rekey.
17) Which interchangeable core cylinders are alternatives to the Medeco 4 LFIC that the 32-0475H housing accepts?
The Medeco 32-0475H housing is prepped for a Medeco 4 large format interchangeable core, a patented UL 437 listed system. Where a facility keys to BEST instead, the BEST 1CB is a 150 series interchangeable core cylinder, the BEST 1CDF is a drill resistant patented interchangeable core in 7-pin brass, 150 series, and the BEST 1C is a standard 5-pin cylinder core. Core family and housing must come from the same system, so a BEST core belongs in a BEST-figure housing, not in the Medeco rim housing.
18) What do I order instead of the Medeco 32-0475H when the cylinder goes in a knob, lever, or deadbolt?
The 32-0475H is a rim housing and does not fit bored knob, lever, or deadbolt hardware. Kaba Ilco covers those preps: the 1539 series is a key-in-knob and lever universal cylinder, the 1599 is a key-in-knob replacement cylinder, the 1549 is a key-in-deadbolt cylinder, and the 1579 is a knob and lever cylinder for Sargent hardware. For Falcon lever hardware, the A23161-05 G is a key-in-lever cylinder in the RU/T series with a 6-pin G keyway, keyed different with 2 cut keys.
19) Is there a simpler 6-pin cylinder than the Medeco 32-0475H for an opening that does not need high security keying?
The Medeco 32-0475H housing runs the Medeco 4 patented system with UL 437 listing and restricted key blanks available only through authorized dealers, which is what a facility buys when key control matters. On an opening where a standard commercial keyway is acceptable, the Detex MC65 is a 6-pin mortise cylinder with a Schlage C keyway at 1-1/8 inch, and the Schlage 20-057-C is a full size interchangeable core in the C keyway. Both use an open keyway that any locksmith can duplicate, which is the tradeoff against the Medeco restricted system.
20) Will a Medeco 4 rim cylinder work outside on an exterior storefront or gate?
Rated indoor/outdoor, and the body is solid brass, which is what carries it on an exterior opening. Steel inserts in the body are there for drill resistance. Typical applications are office buildings, schools and universities, apartments, retail and hospitals.
21) Will the key stay in the Medeco 32-0475H rim cylinder when it is unlocked?
No, it is non-key retaining, so the key pulls out in either position. On an exit device or a storefront door that is usually what you want, since the person opening up is not leaving a key hanging in the cylinder. If your job spec calls for a key retaining cylinder, this is not the part.
