1) How many keys does the Medeco T21 key cabinet hold?
The Medeco T21 manages 21 keys or keysets. Each one attaches to its own iFob and gets assigned a specific receptor in the cabinet, so all 21 positions lock individually and release only to a user with rights to that key. If you run a property with more than 21 keysets to control, you need more than one cabinet or a larger system.
2) Does the Traka 21 key cabinet need to be networked or connected to a PC?
No network and no PC. The T21 is a stand-alone unit that you configure at the cabinet through a setup wizard on its touchscreen. User accounts, key assignments and access rights are all administered on the unit itself. That's the practical difference between this and a server-based key control system: nothing to install on your IT network, nothing for IT to approve.
3) How do users get a key out of the Traka 21, and can I tell who took it?
Users enter a PIN on the touchscreen and only the receptors they have rights to unlock. Every transaction is recorded: you can view the audit trail and run reports on the screen itself, or export the data out through the USB port if you want it in a file. Receptor LEDs show which position released, and audible alarms flag exceptions.
4) What stops someone from swapping a key off the fob and putting it back?
Keys and keysets attach to the T21 iFob with a one-time security seal. To remove the key you have to destroy the seal, which makes tampering visible the next time anyone looks at that fob. The seals are consumable, so order replacements for any key you legitimately need to re-ring.
5) What happens to a Traka 21 key cabinet if the power goes out?
The T21 runs on mains power with battery backup available as an option, so specify the battery if the cabinet sits somewhere that loses power or if keys must stay retrievable during an outage. There are also manual override and door release functions for emergencies, so keys are not trapped in a dead cabinet.
6) How much wall space do I need for a Medeco T21 key cabinet?
