1) Will a Milbank UC7478 meter socket fit a standard 20A network meter installation in New England utility territory?
The UC7478 is built specifically for Northeast Utility New England Area applications, and one of the two versions (MPN UC7478-O-81-NOE) is approved for that territory with a plain top standard enclosure. It's a 6 terminal ringless network meter base, 20 continuous ampere, 1 phase, 600V AC at 60 Hz. Utilities dictate which base they will accept on their system, so match the approval to the serving utility's approved equipment list before you set it.
2) What is the difference between the two UC7478 versions?
Two builds. UC7478-O-81-NOE is the plain top standard enclosure approved for the Northeast Utility New England Area. UC7478-XL comes with a small closing plate and a test switch provision, which is what you want when the utility or the design calls for a test switch to be landed at the socket. Electrically they are the same base: 20A, 1 phase, 600V, 6 terminal ringless.
3) What wire size can I land in this Milbank 20A meter socket?
Both line and load terminals take 12 to 10 AWG, using single mechanical terminals. That's a small-conductor CT-metering style base, not a service socket you can run 4/0 service entrance cable into. If you're pulling anything larger than 10 AWG through it, this is the wrong socket.
