Milbank 44GTF – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is a wireway telescopic fitting used for?
A telescopic fitting is the piece you drop in when two runs of wireway don't land exactly where you need them. It slips over the ends of the trough and slides to take up the gap, so you can close a run without cutting and refabricating a section. The Milbank GTF is the screw cover version, so the cover comes off with screws for pulling conductors through.
2) What sizes does the Milbank GTF telescopic fitting come in?
Five trough sizes: 2.5x2.5 (22GTF), 4x4 (44GTF), 6x6 (66GTF), 8x8 (88GTF) and 12x12 (1212GTF). Match the fitting to the cross section of the wireway you are joining, not to the conductor fill.
3) Can I use the Milbank GTF telescopic fitting outdoors or in a wet location?
No. The GTF is an indoor enclosure fitting only. For an exterior run, a rooftop, or any damp or wet location, you need a raintight wireway fitting instead.
4) Is the Milbank GTF wireway fitting UL Listed?
Yes, the GTF telescopic fitting is UL Listed, which is what most inspectors want to see on wireway and its fittings in a commercial or institutional install.
5) I need to close a gap in a 12 inch wireway run. Which GTF do I order?
Order the 1212GTF, the 12x12 fitting. It is sized for 12 inch wide trough, which is the largest width in the GTF line.
6) Telescopic fitting or a nipple and coupling for joining two wireway sections?
Use a telescopic fitting when the two troughs are already set and the distance between them is not an exact section length. It slides to absorb the difference. If you are laying out a clean run from scratch and can set the spacing yourself, standard connectors and a cut section are simpler. The GTF gives you the adjustable option in 2.5x2.5 through 12x12.
7) Will the gray finish on this fitting match my existing wireway run?
The GTF is steel with an ANSI 61 gray powder coat, the standard gray used across most commercial wireway and gutter, so it blends with an existing run in the same finish. Powder coat over steel also means it takes a touch-up well if it gets scuffed during the pull.
8) Does the cover on this wireway fitting come off for pulling wire?
Yes. It is a screw cover design, so the cover unscrews to give you open access to the trough for the pull, then screws back down. Plan for screwdriver clearance on whichever face the cover sits against.
