1) Is the Milbank U5967-XL meter socket a 4-jaw or 5-jaw socket, and will my utility accept it?
The U5967-XL is a 4-terminal (4-jaw) socket, single phase, 1 meter position. Utilities that require a 5-jaw socket for 120/208V network service will not accept a 4-jaw can, so confirm the jaw count on your utility's approved meter socket list before you set it. 4-jaw is the usual configuration for 120/240V single phase residential service.
2) Does the Milbank U5967-XL come with a main breaker or bypass?
No. It's a straight socket only, no main breaker and no bypass provision. If the utility or your inspector requires a horn bypass for load-side work, or you want a combination meter main, you need a different can. For disconnect means you'll be feeding a separate panel or meter-main downstream.
3) Can I use this Milbank socket for underground service, or is it overhead only?
Both. The U5967-XL accepts overhead or underground cable entry. It ships with a small closing plate on the hub opening, so for an overhead drop you remove the plate and fit the appropriate hub; for underground lateral you leave the top closed and bring the conductors in from the bottom.
