1) Will a Milbank U6221-O meter pedestal accept my utility's 4-jaw ringless 200 amp meter?
The U6221-O is a 4 terminal ringless socket rated 200 continuous amps, single phase, up to 240 volts AC at 60 Hertz. That is the standard single phase residential/light commercial meter configuration. Ringless means there's no sealing ring around the cover, so the utility pulls the cover to access the meter. Check with your serving utility before ordering, since many POCOs approve either ringless or ring-type but not both.
2) Can I feed this Milbank meter pedestal with overhead service?
No. The U6221-O is built for underground cable entry and has a plain top, meaning no hub opening for a weatherhead or conduit riser. It's a direct bury pedestal, so conductors come up from below. If your service is overhead, you need a socket with a hub or hub closing plate provision instead.
3) What's the difference between the 100A and 200A versions of the Milbank U6221-O?
The difference is the main breaker size supplied in the pedestal, not the socket itself. Order U6221-O-200-10GR for a 200 amp main or U6221-O-100-10GR for a 100 amp main. The socket is the same 4 terminal ringless 200 continuous ampere assembly either way, so the 100A version is the one to pick when the utility or the load calc caps you at 100 amps but you still want the full-size enclosure.
4) Does the lever bypass let the utility pull the meter without killing power to the house?
That's exactly what it's for. The lever bypass on the U6221-O closes a shunt across the meter jaws so the meter can be pulled and swapped while the service stays energized. Many utilities require bypass on 200 amp sockets so meter changes and testing don't take the customer down. Note the bypass carries the load only, it is not a disconnect, so for service work you still open the main breaker.
