1) Will the Milbank U7017 meter socket work for an overhead service drop, or do I need an underground-entry socket?
The U7017 is built for overhead service. Cable entry is overhead through a hub at the top, and each version carries a triplex ground for the overhead service drop. If your service lateral comes up from underground, this is the wrong socket for you; you want an underground/lug-entry meter socket instead.
2) What is the difference between the U7017-DL-TG, U7017-DL-TG-LR, and U7017-RL-TG?
All three are the same 200A single-phase 4-terminal ring type socket, differing in the hub and sealing. The U7017-DL-TG has a 2 inch hub with triplex ground. The U7017-DL-TG-LR is the same 2 inch hub configuration supplied less the seal ring. The U7017-RL-TG has a small hub opening with triplex ground and an external hex. Pick the hub size that matches your service raceway, and confirm with the utility whether they want the socket supplied with or without the seal ring.
3) Does the Milbank U7017 meter socket include a main breaker or bypass?
No. It is a no-bypass socket with no main breaker and zero breaker positions, so overcurrent protection has to live downstream in your panel. If your utility requires a lever bypass for hot meter pulls, this socket will not satisfy that requirement.
4) What size conductors can I land in the Milbank 200A ring type meter socket?
