Multi-Groove Fiberglass Fish Tape with Spiral Steel Leader, 100-Foot
56380 - spec sheet
Features
- Polypropylene case and handle offer the maximum impact resistance
- Multi-groove fiberglass fish tape has a strong core for better pushing power while the grooves provide less surface area for smoother tape feeding
- Optimized Housing Design; Multi-Groove Fiberglass Tape
- Multi-position handle gives you a firm, steady grip as you pull or rewind the tape
- Durable 7-Inch spiral steel leader helps push through crowded conduit
- Slip-resistant housing geometry improves winding power and reduces binding
- Case design decreases payout effort and friction by optimizing the tape payout angle
- Durable fiberglass is longer lasting and maneuvers better in crowded conduit
Warnings
- Never remove screws while fish tape is coiled inside reel.
- Never form pulling loop into a single loop (into shape of a fish hook) or create a sharp edge that could cause fish tape to catch on other objects or cut into insulation of surrounding wires. Pulling loop should only be formed into a double loop.
- Wear approved eye protection when feeding, pulling or rewinding fish tape.
- Do NOT use any fish tape on or near live circuits. Use extreme caution when working near any electrical equipment.
- Use a safe work position to avoid loss of balance when using fish tape.

Klein Tools 56380 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What length and diameter is the Klein 56380 fiberglass fish tape?
The Klein Tools 56380 carries 100 feet of 3/16 inch fiberglass tape (30.5 m x 0.5 cm). The 3/16 inch fiberglass section is stiffer than a comparable steel tape of the same width, which is what gives it pushing power in long conduit runs, and the multi-groove profile cuts surface contact so it feeds with less drag.
2) Can I use a fiberglass fish tape near energized wiring?
No. Klein's instructions for the 56380 are explicit: do not use any fish tape on or near live circuits, and use extreme caution around electrical equipment. Fiberglass is not a substitute for de-energizing the circuit. Eye protection is called for whenever you are feeding, pulling or rewinding the tape.
3) How do I attach wire to the fish tape without damaging insulation in the pipe?
Form the pulling loop as a double loop only. Klein warns against bending the tape into a single loop that looks like a fish hook, or leaving any sharp edge, because that will catch on other conductors in the raceway or cut into their insulation on the pull.
4) What is on the end of the Klein 56380 fish tape, and does it help in packed conduit?
It ends in a 7 inch spiral steel leader. The flexible spiral nose works past existing conductors and around bends in crowded conduit better than a rigid tip, which is the usual failure point when you are adding circuits to a pipe that is already loaded.
5) How big and heavy is the 56380 reel to carry on a ladder or in a van?
The reel measures 13 inches in diameter and weighs 3.4 lb (1.5 kg). Overall case dimensions are 16.21 x 12.35 x 1.85 inches, so it stands taller than it is wide and is under two inches thick, which is what lets it slide into a van shelf or a bucket alongside other tools.
6) Should I buy fiberglass or steel fish tape for conduit work?
Fiberglass, which is what the 56380 uses, is longer lasting and maneuvers better in crowded conduit, and the multi-groove core gives it pushing stiffness without the surface drag of a flat tape. Steel tape is the thinner, more flexible choice for tight bends, but it kinks and takes a set. Neither type may be used on or near live circuits.
7) Are replacement parts available for the Klein 56380 fish tape?
Yes. Klein lists parts 56025, 56115, 56116 and 56120 as the replacement items for the 56380, so a damaged tape or leader does not mean scrapping the reel. One important caution during service: never remove the case screws while the tape is still coiled inside the reel.
8) Is the 56380 case tough enough for daily jobsite abuse?
The case and handle are polypropylene, chosen for impact resistance, in orange and black. The housing geometry is slip resistant to improve winding power and reduce binding, and the payout angle is shaped to cut friction when you are feeding tape by hand. The handle is multi-position so you can keep a steady grip pulling or rewinding.
9) What is the Klein part number to order for the 100-foot multi-groove fiberglass fish tape?
Order Klein Tools 56380. That is the 100 foot multi-groove fiberglass tape with the spiral steel leader on a 13 inch reel.
