Metallics MN112R25 Nail 1-1/2 Galv Roofing Box Nail St

A 1-1/2 inch galvanized roofing nail like the Metallics MN112R25 covers asphalt shingle over standard sheathing, and it is the common length for re-roof work where the nail has to pass through the shingle plus an underlayment and still bite the deck. If you are nailing through multiple existing shingle layers or thick built-up material, step up to a longer roofing nail instead; the 1-1/2 inch will not reach enough deck to hold.

The MN112R25 is a 1-1/2 inch galvanized roofing nail, supplied as a box nail in steel. The galvanized coating is what makes it suitable for exterior roofing work where a bright steel nail would rust out.

A roofing nail, which is what the Metallics MN112R25 is, uses a large flat head that spreads clamping force across the shingle or felt so it will not tear through. A common nail has a much smaller head and will pull through roofing material. Use the roofing nail for shingles, felt, and underlayment; use a common nail for framing.

Yes. The MN112R25 is galvanized steel, so it is intended for exterior exposure such as roof decks, felt, and flashing attachment. For salt air or pressure-treated lumber contact, a heavier hot-dip galvanized or stainless fastener is the better call.

The Metallics MN112R25 is a loose box nail, so it is hand driven with a roofing hatchet or hammer. Collated coil nails are a separate product and will not interchange with loose box nails in a pneumatic coil nailer.

Both. Metallics catalogs the MN112R25 as an electrical fastener, and the trade uses short large-head galvanized nails to anchor service-entrance straps, weatherheads, drip loops, and exterior clamps where a broad head is needed to hold a strap or cable flat against wood.
