Nibco 9072650 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does Ftg x C mean on the Nibco 607-2-I elbow, and which end goes into the pipe?
Ftg x C means one end is a male solder end (fitting end, sized to slip into another fitting's cup) and the other is a female solder cup that accepts copper tube. So the 607-2-I lets you come straight out of another fitting on the Ftg side and take tube on the C side, without adding a short nipple of pipe between them. Both ends are soldered.
2) Can I use the Nibco 607-2-I on potable water in a commercial building?
Yes. The elbow is lead-free and listed to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372, which is the potable-water requirement most jurisdictions enforce, and it is called out for both commercial and residential plumbing. It is also dezincification resistant, which matters on aggressive water.
3) Is this Nibco elbow acceptable for a medical gas line?
It is called out for med-gas service and referenced to NFPA 99 Health Care Facilities Gas and Vacuum Systems along with Compressed Gas Association Pamphlet G4.1. Note that medical gas installations require cleaned-and-capped tube and fittings plus a brazed joint made by a certified brazer, so order and handle accordingly rather than treating it as a general plumbing fitting.
4) What copper tube sizes does the Nibco 607-2-I street elbow come in?
Four sizes: 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 and 1 inch. Part numbers run 9072500 for 1/2 inch, 9072550 for 5/8 inch, 9072600 for 3/4 inch and 9072650 for 1 inch. The 5/8 inch size is the one to note if you are working ACR refrigeration lines rather than plumbing.
5) Is an intermediate radius elbow different from a standard 90 short radius elbow?
Yes. The 607-2-I is a 90 degree (1/4 bend) elbow with an intermediate radius, meaning the bend sweeps wider than a short-radius 90 but is tighter than a long-radius sweep. Plumbers reach for it where flow matters a little more than space, and refrigeration techs use it on suction and liquid lines. If your layout is tight against framing, a standard short-radius 90 fits closer; if you need minimum pressure drop on a long run, a long-radius or sweep elbow is the better call.
6) What material and standards does the Nibco 607-2-I meet for a spec submittal?
Wrot copper, ASTM B75 alloy C12200. Material and workmanship are per ASME B16.22, and material, workmanship and dimensions per MSS SP-104. Manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility. That combination is normally what a mechanical spec asks for on solder-joint pressure fittings.
7) Will this elbow work on a hydronic heating or compressed air system, not just water?
Yes, it covers heating, HVAC, compressed air, fire protection, irrigation and industrial service in addition to plumbing, and it is rated for ACR air conditioning and refrigeration work. It is a solder-joint pressure fitting, so the joint rating on your system comes from the solder alloy and tube you use with it.
