Nibco NBC-607-LT – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Nibco 607-LT elbow solder or press fit?
Solder, both ends. The 607-LT is a C x C wrot copper elbow, so each end is a solder cup that the copper tube slips into and gets sweated or brazed. There's no press ring, no thread, and no compression nut. If your job is press-connect, this is the wrong fitting family.
2) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 607-LT long radius elbow come in?
Same size on both ends runs 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 2, 2-1/2, 3 and 4 inch. There are also reducing versions that change size through the turn: 1/4 x 1/8, 1/2 x 3/8, 1/2 x 1/4, 5/8 x 1/2, 3/4 x 5/8, 3/4 x 1/2, 1 x 3/4, 1 x 5/8, and 1-1/4 x 1 inch. Sizes are copper tube nominal, so a 1/2 inch elbow takes 1/2 inch nominal copper tube, not 1/2 inch OD.
3) What does the Cleaned and Bagged option on the Nibco 607-LT mean, and do I need it?
Cleaned and bagged fittings are processed and sealed for oxygen and medical gas work, where the inside of the fitting has to stay free of oil and debris until the moment it's brazed. Order it if you're piping med gas under NFPA 99, which this fitting is listed for. For ordinary water, heating or HVAC work, the standard wrot version is what you want. Cleaned and bagged is offered in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 and 1 inch.
4) Is the Nibco 607-LT elbow approved for potable drinking water?
Yes. The 607-LT is lead-free and certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372, which are the drinking water standards a plumbing inspector will look for on potable systems. It's also dezincification resistant, which matters on water with aggressive chemistry.
5) Will this copper elbow meet the spec on my drawing for ASME B16.22 wrot fittings?
The 607-LT is manufactured to ASME B16.22 for material and workmanship, and to MSS SP-104 for material, workmanship and dimensions. The copper is ASTM B75 alloy C12200. Those are the three callouts most commercial plumbing specs use for wrot copper solder fittings, so it will match a B16.22 line item on a submittal.
6) Can I use the Nibco 607-LT on a compressed air or fire protection line?
Yes. The 607-LT is listed for commercial and residential plumbing, compressed air, fire protection, heating, HVAC, industrial, irrigation and medical gas. On fire protection specifically, select diameters are UL 207 Recognized to 700 PSI, so confirm the size you need carries that recognition before it goes on a sprinkler submittal.
7) What is the difference between a long radius and a short radius 90-degree copper elbow, and when should I use the Nibco 607-LT?
The 607-LT is the long turn version, meaning the bend sweeps through a wider arc than a standard short radius 90. That gentler turn is what you want where you're trying to keep friction loss down on a long run, pull a cable or tubing through, or keep flow smooth on a pumped loop. For tight mechanical rooms and joist bays where the fitting has to stay close to the pipe centerline, a standard short radius 90 takes less space. Both solder into the same copper tube, so the choice is about turn radius and available room, not connection type.
8) Can I change pipe size and direction in one fitting instead of using a separate coupling?
Yes, the 607-LT comes in reducing configurations that take the size down through the 90. Available steps are 1/4 x 1/8, 1/2 x 3/8, 1/2 x 1/4, 5/8 x 1/2, 3/4 x 5/8, 3/4 x 1/2, 1 x 3/4, 1 x 5/8, and 1-1/4 x 1 inch. That saves you a joint and a couple of inches of takeout compared with an elbow plus a reducing coupling.
9) Will a wrot copper elbow work with the cast copper fittings already on my system?
Yes. Wrot and cast solder fittings use the same nominal copper tube sizes and the same solder cup dimensions, so a wrot 607-LT elbow solders onto the same tube as the cast fittings already in the line. Wrot is formed from drawn copper tube, which is why the body is thinner and lighter than a cast equivalent at the same size. The 607-LT body is copper, ASTM B75 alloy C12200.
10) Do I need to order anything else to make up a solder joint with these copper elbows?
The elbow itself is just the fitting. To make the joint you still need flux, lead-free solder (or brazing alloy on med gas and high pressure work), emery cloth or a fitting brush to clean the cup and tube, and a torch. On med gas, the joint is brazed with nitrogen purge rather than soldered. Nothing is packed with the fitting.
11) I'm standardizing copper fittings across a facility. Does one part number cover every size I'd stock?
No, each size is its own part number. The 607-LT long radius 90 runs from 1/8 inch up to 4 inch with a separate MPN per size, plus separate numbers for the reducing versions and for the cleaned and bagged med gas versions. For a stocking list, the common commercial sizes are 1/2 inch (9077850), 3/4 inch (9078150), 1 inch (9078400), 1-1/4 inch (9078600), 1-1/2 inch (9078750) and 2 inch (9078900).
12) Is copper still a good choice on a LEED or sustainable building project?
Copper is fully recyclable and reusable at end of life, which is what gets it onto sustainable project specs. The 607-LT is ASTM B75 alloy C12200 copper, lead-free, and made in an ISO 9001 certified facility. For a green building submittal, the NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372 lead-free certifications are usually the other line item you'll be asked for.
