Nibco H057050 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the difference between a long turn and a short turn 90 degree DWV elbow, and which should I use on a drain line?
Both make a quarter bend, but the long turn sweeps the direction change over a wider radius. On waste lines that matters: the gentler radius keeps the flow moving and improves takeaway of waste water, which is why long turn fittings are the usual choice where a horizontal drain turns or where a vertical stack turns into horizontal. Short turn elbows are used where space is tight and the fitting has to fit inside a wall cavity or between joists. The 907-LT is the long radius version, 90 degrees, quarter bend.
2) Can I use a Nibco 907-LT DWV elbow on a pressurized water supply line?
No. The 907-LT is a DWV fitting, built for drain, waste and vent service only. DWV fittings use thinner walls and shallower solder cups than pressure fittings and are not rated for supply pressure. For a potable water line you need a pressure-rated copper elbow, not a DWV one.
3) What material is the Nibco 907-LT elbow and will it hold up in a commercial building drain?
Wrot copper, ASTM B75 alloy C12200, made to ASME B16.29 for material and workmanship, and dezincification resistant. It is specified for both commercial and residential plumbing. Copper DWV is also straightforward to recycle at end of life, which matters on projects tracking sustainable materials.
4) Do I need any adapter to connect a 907-LT elbow to copper DWV tube, or does it solder straight on?
It solders straight on. Both ends are cups sized to take copper tube directly, so nothing threads and no adapter is involved. What you do need on the job is flux, solder and heat, plus clean and deburred tube ends. If the run has to transition to threaded pipe or to plastic, that transition happens at a separate adapter fitting, not at this elbow.
5) Is the Nibco 907-LT a quarter bend fitting?
Yes, quarter bend and 90 degree are the same thing here. Plumbers on the drainage side usually say quarter bend; the catalog angle is 90 degrees. The 907-LT is the long turn version of that quarter bend, so it is the one called out where the drawing asks for a long sweep rather than a tight ell.
6) Can a 907-LT long turn elbow be used on a vent line as well as a drain?
Yes. It is a DWV fitting covering drain, waste and vent, so the same elbow serves a vent riser offset as it does a waste turn. On vent work the long radius is not doing anything for flow, it is simply a copper quarter bend, so a short turn will often do the same job in less space. Size it to the tube, 1-1/2 inch or 2 inch.
