Nibco E055550 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Nibco 807 elbow solder onto copper pipe, or does it thread?
It solders. Both ends are C x C, meaning female solder cups that slip over the outside of copper tube and are sweated with solder. There are no threads on this fitting, so if your line terminates in threaded pipe you need a separate adapter.
2) Can I use the Nibco 807 elbow on a pressure water line?
No. The 807 is a DWV fitting, built for drain, waste and vent service only. DWV fittings have thinner walls than pressure copper fittings and are not rated for supply piping. For domestic water use a pressure-rated copper fitting instead.
3) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 807 DWV elbow come in, and are there reducing versions?
Four configurations: 1-1/2 x 1-1/4 inch, 2 x 1-1/2 inch, 3 inch and 4 inch. The first two are reducing elbows, so they change direction and step the line down in one fitting. The 3 inch and 4 inch are straight size on both ends.

7) Do I need a separate reducer if I'm going from 2 inch to 1-1/2 inch at a turn?
Not with the 2 x 1-1/2 inch version of the 807. That elbow takes 2 inch copper tube on one cup and 1-1/2 inch on the other, so the turn and the size change happen in a single soldered fitting. Same idea with the 1-1/2 x 1-1/4 inch.
8) What is the Nibco 807 elbow actually made of? Is it copper or brass?
It is a cast bronze fitting, ASTM B584 alloy C84400, and it is dezincification resistant. That is normal for cast DWV fittings in the larger sizes, and it solders to copper tube the same way a wrought copper fitting does.
