It's a non-insulated ferrule, so there is no plastic collar at the back of the barrel. That makes it the right choice where the terminal or clamp body already provides the insulation and strain relief, or where space in a crowded control panel won't take the extra length and diameter of an insulated collar. If you need the colour-coded sleeve for strand protection where wire exits the block, use an insulated ferrule instead.

Ferrules are intended for stranded conductors. The copper barrel is there to gather fine strands into a solid pin so they don't splay or get crushed unevenly under a terminal screw. On solid 18 AWG the wire already behaves like a pin and the ferrule adds nothing, so put these on your stranded control and instrument wire instead.

Copper barrel. Copper keeps the termination resistance low on fine-stranded control wire and crimps down cleanly without cracking, which is why ferrules are specified on stranded conductors going into screw or spring-cage terminals rather than tinning the strands with solder.
