Sta-Kon F10711UFR – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size and bolt size does the Sta-Kon F10711UFR ring terminal take?
It is built for 4 AWG wire and a 1/4 inch bolt or stud. The barrel is a tubular crimp barrel sized for the No. 4 conductor, and the ring tongue drops over a 1/4 inch terminal screw or bus stud. If your conductor is 6 AWG or 2 AWG, this is the wrong barrel, the crimp will not hold.
2) Is the Sta-Kon F10711UFR insulated, and do I need to add anything to finish the termination?
Non-insulated, bare copper barrel. Nothing covers the crimp when you are done, so if the termination sits where it can be touched or where you need strain relief and color coding, plan on adhesive-lined heat shrink or a terminal boot sized for a 4 AWG barrel as a separate item. In an enclosed panel on a dead bus that is usually not required.
3) Can I use this copper lug on aluminum conductors?
No. The barrel is copper, which makes it a copper-only terminal. Landing aluminum wire in a copper barrel without the right dual-rated, compound-filled connector invites galvanic corrosion and a hot joint. For aluminum feeders you want an AL9CU dual-rated lug instead.
4) What does the 45 degree reverse bend on this Sta-Kon ring terminal actually do for me?
The reverse bend angles the ring tongue back off the axis of the wire barrel, roughly 45 degrees, so the conductor can approach a stud from the side or below and the lug still lands flat on the pad. It is the fix for tight panel gutters and stacked stud landings where a straight flag lug would force a sharp bend in a heavy 4 AWG cable. If the cable runs straight at the stud with room behind it, a straight ring terminal is the simpler choice.
5) Is this a crimp lug or a solder lug?
Crimp. The F10711UFR is a tubular barrel compression terminal, so it is installed with a crimp tool and the correct die for a 4 AWG non-insulated barrel. It is not meant to be soldered, and a soldered joint in a crimp barrel makes the conductor brittle right at the exit point where vibration works on it.
6) Where is the Sta-Kon F10711UFR made? I have to document country of origin on a government job.
Country of origin is Mexico. That is the figure to put on your submittal or compliance paperwork for this terminal.
