Sta-Kon C26M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon C26M ring terminal take?
The C26M is sized for 12-10 AWG conductors. Anything smaller, like 16-14 AWG, will not crimp reliably in this barrel, and 8 AWG will not enter it. Match the barrel to the actual conductor you are landing, not the breaker size.
2) What stud or screw size does the C26M ring fit?
The ring tongue on the Sta-Kon C26M is drilled for a No. 10 stud or screw. It will slip over a #10 terminal block screw or ground screw; a 1/4-20 stud is too large for it.
3) Is the Sta-Kon C26M insulated, and do I need to sleeve it?
It is a non-insulated copper ring terminal, so the crimped barrel and tongue are bare metal. On anything energized in a panel or harness you should add heat shrink or an insulating sleeve over the barrel, or rely on the terminal block's own barriers for separation.
4) Can I use the Sta-Kon C26M on a 480V panelboard circuit?
Yes. The terminal carries a 600 V rating, which covers 120/208, 277 and 480V panelboard work. It is UL listed under file E9809.
5) Where are non-insulated ring terminals like the C26M normally used instead of insulated ones?
Non-insulated rings are the choice where the connection gets its own insulation after crimping (heat shrink, tape, or a boot) or where the terminal block already provides the barrier. Typical work is wiring harnesses, panelboards, telecommunications equipment, and automotive. If you want color-coded insulation built in and no secondary sleeving step, use an insulated ring of the same 12-10 AWG range instead.
6) Why choose a ring terminal over a fork or spade for a #10 screw?
A ring tongue is captive: the screw has to come all the way out before the conductor can leave the stud, which is why rings are specified for ground connections and for equipment subject to vibration. A fork terminal slides off under a loosened screw, so it is only used where fast disconnection is wanted. The C26M is the ring version for 12-10 AWG on a No. 10 stud.
7) Is the C26M suitable for aluminum conductors?
No. It is a copper terminal and should be used on copper conductors only. Aluminum requires a terminal specifically marked AL or AL/CU with the appropriate inhibitor compound.
8) Is the Sta-Kon C26M made in the USA?
Yes, country of origin is the United States. That matters on federal, municipal, and transit jobs carrying domestic-sourcing language in the spec.
