NSi Polaris IPLD Series Insulated Multi-Tap Connector, Dual Sided Entry

The NSi Industries Polaris IPLD Series Insulated Multi-Tap Connector is a dual sided entry (DSE) wire termination device built for reliable multi-tap connections on Class B & C conductors. This family is available across a wide wire range span — from 3/0 AWG up to 750 MCM depending on the configuration selected — with port counts ranging from 3-Port to 8-Port to match run and tap conductor combinations. Molded in black Plastisol for insulation and corrosion protection, every connector in the IPLD Series is rated 600V and is cULus listed for use on commercial, industrial, and utility electrical systems. The dual sided entry (DSE) design allows conductors to be inserted from either side of the connector body, simplifying installation in tight enclosures, panelboards, and switchgear where working space is limited.

Key Features

  • Wire Range Span: Configurations across the IPLD Series accommodate conductors from 3/0 AWG through 750 MCM, letting installers select the exact run/tap combination needed for the job.
  • Port Configurations: Available in 3-Port, 4-Port, 5-Port, 6-Port, and 8-Port versions to support single or multiple tap conductors from one run conductor.
  • Durable Construction: Molded black Plastisol body insulates and protects the connector from moisture, dust, and corrosion in demanding job-site conditions.
  • Dual Sided Entry (DSE): Allows conductors to be inserted from both sides of the connector, streamlining installation and reducing labor time in confined spaces.
  • Voltage Rating: Rated for 600V applications, suitable for demanding commercial and industrial electrical distribution work.
  • Wire Type Compatibility: Engineered for use with Class B & C stranded conductors commonly found in service entrance and feeder applications.
  • Color: Black Plastisol housing for easy visual identification on the job site.
  • Finish: Plastisol finish provides consistent insulation coverage and long-term durability against the elements.

NSi IPLD3/0-3 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What wire sizes will the NSi Polaris IPLD dual sided entry connector accept?
Across the IPLD Series the range runs 250 MCM down to 6 AWG, but each catalog number has its own window and they are not the same. IPLD250 models take 250 MCM - 6 AWG, IPLD3/0 takes 3/0 - 6 AWG, IPLD350 takes 350 MCM - 6 AWG, IPLD500 takes 500 MCM - 4 AWG (note the smaller end stops at 4 AWG, not 6), IPLD600-4 takes 600 MCM - 6 AWG, and IPLD750 takes 750 - 250 MCM. The 750 body will not accept anything below 250 MCM, so if you have a small tap conductor on a large feeder, size down to a body whose range covers both.
2) How many ports can I get on a Polaris IPLD multi-tap connector?
Port counts run 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 depending on the wire range you pick. The 250 MCM body is offered in 3, 4, 5 and 6 port (IPLD250-3 through IPLD250-6), the 350 and 500 bodies in 3, 4 and 6 port, the 500 also in 8 port (IPLD500-8), the 3/0 and 750 bodies in 3 and 4 port, and the 600 MCM body in 4 port only (IPLD600-4). Count your run conductor plus every tap when you choose: a feeder in, feeder out and two taps needs a 4 port.
3) Is the NSi Polaris IPLD connector rated for 600V service and feeder work?
Rated 600V and cULus Listed, which covers typical commercial and industrial distribution, service entrance taps and feeder work. The black Plastisol body is the insulation, so no tape or separate cover is needed to finish the splice.
4) I need to tap a 500 MCM feeder for three smaller branch circuits. Which IPLD do I order?
Use a 500 MCM body with enough ports for the run plus all three taps: that is four conductors minimum, so IPLD500-4, or IPLD500-6 if you want spares. Check the taps first though, the 500 MCM bodies bottom out at 4 AWG, so a 6 AWG tap will not land in them. If any tap is 6 AWG, split it out on a separate smaller connector.
5) What does dual sided entry mean on a Polaris connector, and when should I use it instead of a single sided one?
Dual sided entry means conductors land from both ends of the connector body rather than all from one face. That is what you want on a straight-through feeder tap, where the run comes in one side and continues out the other with taps off each end, and it helps in shallow panelboards, gutters and switchgear where you cannot get a long bend radius on every conductor from a single face. If all your conductors approach from the same direction, a single sided entry body keeps the wiring tidier.
6) Can I use these Polaris connectors on solid or compact conductors, or only stranded?
The IPLD bodies are built for Class B and C stranded conductors, the stranding you normally find on feeder and service entrance cable. That is what the port geometry and set screws are sized around, so specify Class B or C stranded when you order.
7) Can I standardize on one Polaris IPLD part number across a building?
Only if your conductor sizes stay inside one body's window. The IPLD250 bodies cover the widest practical span for branch and feeder work at 250 MCM - 6 AWG and come in 3, 4, 5 and 6 port, so that family is the usual stocking choice for an MRO crib. Larger services need the 350, 500, 600 or 750 bodies, and the 750 only goes down to 250 MCM.
8) Will the Polaris IPLD hold up in a wet or dirty location?
The molded black Plastisol housing seals the connection against moisture, dust and corrosion, which is why these get used in outdoor gutters and utility terminations as well as inside panelboards. Nothing additional gets taped over it.
