Nuts 7/16-14 Hx Nut SS (Jar 100)
Additional Notes
- Other sizes and quantities available by request
Features
- Six-sided internally threaded fastener whose thickness is 0.875 D is the nominal nut size and 1.5 D is their width across the flats, made from austenitic alloys.
- Designed for use with stainless steel bolts and screws with a specified minimum tensile strength equal to or less than the specified proof stress of the mating nut. Both type of stainless are corrosion resistant with 316 stainless having greater such resistance as well as superior strength at raised temperatures.

Metallics JSN20 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Metallics JSN20 hex nut thread onto a 7/16-14 UNC bolt?
Yes. The JSN20 is a 7/16 inch hex nut cut at 14 threads per inch, which is the standard UNC coarse pitch for that diameter, so it runs onto any 7/16-14 bolt or threaded rod. It is made to ANSI/ASME B18.2.2 dimensions, so it also fits standard 7/16 hex wrenching tools and washers.
2) Is this nut 18-8 or 316 stainless?
The JSN20 is 18-8 stainless steel. If you are fastening in a coastal, pool chemical, or high heat environment, 316 is the grade with greater corrosion resistance and better strength at raised temperatures, so order 316 nuts instead of these. For general indoor and most outdoor electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work, 18-8 is the usual choice.
3) Can I use stainless nuts like these on a government job with Buy American requirements?
No. The JSN20 hex nut is not Buy American compliant and is not ARRA compliant, and country of origin is listed as multiple. If your spec carries a domestic sourcing clause, this jar will not satisfy it.
4) How many nuts come in a jar and can I buy a smaller quantity?
The JSN20 ships as a jar of 100 nuts, and the jar is the minimum order unit, so 100 pieces is the smallest purchase. Metallics does make other sizes and quantities of this hex nut available by request if 100 of the 7/16-14 is not what you need.
5) Do I need to match the bolt grade to these stainless nuts?
Yes, and it matters. These nuts are intended for stainless steel bolts and screws whose specified minimum tensile strength is equal to or less than the proof stress of the nut. Pairing them with a higher strength bolt than the nut can carry means the threads strip before the bolt does. Hardness on the JSN20 runs Rockwell B95 to C32.
6) Are stainless hex nuts the right choice for electrical strut and conduit hardware, or should I use plated steel?
Stainless is the choice where corrosion is the concern: damp mechanical rooms, exterior runs, wash-down areas, or anywhere a zinc plated nut will bloom rust and seize on the rod. The JSN20 is called out for electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning work. For dry interior strut hangers with no moisture exposure, plated steel does the same mechanical job. One practical note on stainless: it galls easily, so run it on slowly and use anti-seize on long threaded rod.
7) How much does a jar of 100 of these 7/16-14 stainless nuts weigh for shipping?
A full jar of the JSN20 comes in at 2.85 lbs, with the jar measuring 3 in by 3 in by 3.6 in.
