What it is not rated for is wet locations, meaning anywhere exposed to direct water or driving rain, including an open eave or an uncovered exterior ceiling.

There is an integral pull chain switch on the fixture, so it can be controlled at the light itself. That is the reason this style shows up in closets, utility rooms, garages, attics, and basements where there is a ceiling box but no switch leg was ever run. You can still wire it to a wall switch if one exists; leave the pull chain in the on position and let the wall switch do the work.
