Sta-Kon RG717U – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Why is this ring terminal bent at 90 degrees instead of straight?
The 90 degree bend lets the conductor run parallel to the panel or bus face while the ring sits flat on the stud, so you are not putting a side load or sharp bend on a heavy 2 AWG cable right at the lug. It is the version to use in tight enclosures, breaker panels and battery or motor terminations where a straight terminal would force the cable out into the cover space. If you have room to come straight at the stud, a straight ring terminal in the same size works fine.
2) Can I crimp a 2 AWG nylon insulated ring terminal with hand pliers?
No. A No. 2 barrel needs a heavy-duty crimper sized for large gauge terminals, either a hydraulic or a long-handle mechanical tool with the matching die. Standard hand pliers for 22-10 AWG insulated terminals will not compress a 2 AWG barrel to a sound termination, and an under-crimped connection on a cable this size runs hot. Order the tool and die before the terminals if you do not already have one on the truck.
