Sta-Kon RA857-170 NYLON INSUL TERM 22-18 No6 RED

The RA857-170 ring terminal is sized for 22-18 AWG stranded or solid copper wire. Red insulation is the standard color code for that gauge band, so if you are crimping 16-14 AWG you need the blue-barrel terminal instead, not this one.

It is a No. 6 ring, so it slips over a #6 screw or stud. On a terminal block, breaker lug, or ground screw tapped larger than #6 (a #8 or #10), the tongue will not go on and you need the matching larger ring size.

Yes, it carries UL file E9809. That is what an institutional or MRO inspector looks for when terminations have to be listed components inside a panel or control enclosure.

A ring terminal like the RA857-170 is the choice when the connection must not back out, because the screw has to be fully removed to release it, which is why ring tongues are standard on motor leads, grounds, and vibration-prone equipment. A fork or spade tongue slides out from under a loosened screw, so it is quicker for panels you service often. For a #6 screw on 22-18 AWG wire where reliability wins over service speed, use the ring.

The insulating sleeve on the RA857-170 is vinyl. Vinyl barrels are the common general-purpose choice for interior low-voltage and control wiring; for high-heat locations near motors or ballasts, a nylon-insulated or non-insulated barrel with heat-shrink is the better call.

Country of origin on the RA857-170 is the United States, which matters if you are bidding government or institutional work with domestic-sourcing requirements.

Use an insulated-terminal crimper on the red (22-18 AWG) nest. Insulated barrels crimp through the sleeve, so a non-insulated or open-barrel die will split the vinyl and leave an unreliable joint. Color-coded nests on the tool match the barrel color, red to red.
