Sta-Kon RB1337 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon RB1337 ring terminal crimp onto?
The RB1337 takes 18 to 14 AWG stranded copper wire. That's the blue-coded band in the standard insulated terminal color system, so if your existing terminals on the harness are blue, this is the same wire range. For 22-16 AWG you need a red terminal instead, and for 12-10 AWG a yellow one.
2) Is the Sta-Kon RB1337 terminal UL listed, and what voltage can I use it at?
Yes. The RB1337 carries UL file E9809 and is rated 600 V, which covers typical panelboard and control-panel wiring as well as low-voltage harness and telecom work.
3) Should I use a ring terminal or a fork terminal on a panelboard screw?
A ring terminal like the RB1337 is the one to use where the connection must not come loose, because the screw has to be fully removed before the wire can leave the stud. A fork or spade slides out under a loosened screw, which makes it faster to service but less secure under vibration. For wiring harness and automotive work where things shake, the ring is the right call.
4) Is the RB1337 barrel copper or aluminum, and can I put aluminum wire in it?
The barrel is copper, so it is intended for copper conductors. Aluminum building wire needs a terminal specifically marked AL or AL/CU with the proper compound; this one is not that.
5) Does the vinyl insulation on the RB1337 cover the wire, or do I still need heat shrink?
The RB1337 is a vinyl insulated ring terminal, so the sleeve covers the barrel and the end of the conductor insulation once crimped, and no separate sleeving is needed for ordinary dry panel or harness work. Vinyl is not a sealing material though, so if the joint sees moisture or salt spray you want an adhesive-lined heat shrink terminal instead.
6) Is the Sta-Kon RB1337 made in the USA?
Yes, the RB1337 ring terminal is of US origin, which matters on federal and institutional jobs carrying domestic-content requirements.
