OATEY 31276 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Oatey 31276 swab applicator fit a gallon can of PVC cement or primer?
Yes. The Oatey 31276 is a 12 inch swab applicator made for gallon cement and primer cans, and it fits both wide mouth and standard mouth can openings. That matters if you buy cement by the gallon rather than the small quart cans with the factory dauber built into the lid.
2) Why do I need a separate swab for a gallon can of solvent cement?
Gallon cans ship without an attached dauber, so there is nothing in the lid to apply with. The Oatey 31276 gives you a 12 inch handled swab that reaches the bottom of a full gallon can without putting your fingers in the cement, and it works on either a wide mouth or standard mouth can.
3) Can one swab be used for both primer and cement on a PVC job?
The 31276 is rated for use in gallon cement or primer cans, but on a two-step job keep one swab in the primer and a second in the cement. Carrying primer into the cement can contaminates it. For a crew running both, plan on ordering the applicator in pairs.
4) What is the Oatey part number for the 12 inch gallon can swab applicator?
Order it as Oatey 31276. It is a single-model item, so there is no length or size choice to specify, just the 12 inch swab.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 31276 swab applicator for shipping or stocking on a truck?
It is a light item at 0.15 in the catalog weight, so it adds essentially nothing to a van stock order. Most contractors buy several at a time and keep spares with each gallon can.
