1) Can Oatey 30759 purple primer be used on ABS pipe?
No. The Oatey 30759 purple primer is for PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings only, and is specifically not recommended for ABS piping installations. For an ABS drain, waste and vent job you need an ABS cement instead, which is applied without a primer.
2) What temperature can you apply Oatey purple primer in?
Application range runs from 40 to 110 degrees F (4 to 43 degrees C). Below 40 F the solvent will not soften the pipe surface properly, and above 110 F it flashes off before you get the cement on. If you are working outside in a cold snap or in direct summer sun on a roof, that range is the number to plan the joint around.
3) Does purple primer satisfy an inspector who wants to see primer on the joint?
That is exactly what the purple tint is for. The 30759 leaves a visible purple ring at the socket so an inspector can verify primer was used where plumbing code requires it. If your jurisdiction only requires a primer and not proof of one, a clear primer would do the same chemical job without the stain.
