1) Does the Oatey 76012 come with the sediment bucket, or is that bought separately?
The bucket ships with it. The 76012 is supplied as a complete sediment drain with the plastic grate and the sediment bucket, so you are not sourcing the basket as a separate line item.
2) What is a sediment drain with a bucket actually for, versus a plain floor drain?
The bucket is a removable catch basin that traps grit, sand, hair and debris before it reaches the waste line. A plain floor drain sends everything downstream; the 76012 lets maintenance lift the plastic grate, pull the bucket, dump it and drop it back in. That makes it the choice for mop rooms, wash-down areas, mechanical rooms and car-wash style bays where solids are part of the flow and a 2 inch PVC line would otherwise keep plugging.
3) Is the Oatey 76012 drain body metal or plastic?
All plastic. The body is PVC and the grate is plastic as well, so there is nothing to corrode in a damp or chemical wash-down area. If your spec calls for a cast iron body or a nickel bronze or stainless grate for traffic loading, this is not the one.
4) Do I still need a P-trap with the Oatey 76012 sediment drain?
Yes. The 76012 is a 2 inch PVC drain body with a sediment bucket, not a trapped assembly, so the trap gets made up in the 2 inch PVC line below it. Plan for trap and cleanout access in the rough-in, plus a trap primer connection if the drain sits in a room that sees little use.
5) Can the Oatey 76012 be installed in a concrete floor pour?
It is built for that kind of work. The PVC body solvent welds to the 2 inch line and gets set to finished floor height before the pour, with the plastic grate coming off for cleanout access once the slab is finished. Protect the bucket opening during the pour so grout does not set inside it.
