OATEY 42786 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How does the Oatey 42786 cleanout attach to the pipe, solvent weld or friction fit?
It is a solvent weld connection. The 42786 PVC cleanout assembly is cemented to the DWV pipe with PVC solvent cement, not threaded or gasketed, so you need a clean dry pipe end, primer and cement to make the joint.
2) Is the Oatey 42786 cleanout plug metal or plastic?
Plastic. The cover on the 42786 assembly is plastic in a white finish, matching the PVC body. If your spec calls for a metal or brass cleanout cover for a finished floor or a traffic area, this is not that part, you want a cleanout with a metallic cover plate.
