OATEY 86043 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Oatey 86043 come with a sediment bucket?
No bucket is included with the 86043. It ships as the ABS drain body with a cast iron grate only, so if the job calls for a sediment bucket to catch solids you need to source that separately or pick a version that includes one.
2) Can I use the Oatey 86043 drain on PVC pipe?
The 86043 body is ABS, which solvent welds with ABS cement to ABS DWV pipe. Joining it to PVC is a transition, not a normal solvent weld, so plan on a mechanical or approved transition coupling and check what your local code accepts for mixed DWV materials.
3) Is the grate on the Oatey 86043 metal or plastic?
Cast iron grate on an ABS body. That matters where carts, hand trucks, or foot traffic cross the drain, since a cast iron top takes abuse a plastic strainer will not.
4) What is a sediment drain used for versus a standard floor drain?
A sediment drain like the Oatey 86043 is set where solids wash into the floor drain, such as a wash bay, mechanical room, or janitor area, and it is built to take a sediment bucket that traps debris before it reaches the line. A plain floor drain has no provision for that. The 86043 is supplied without the bucket, so it works as a straight floor drain out of the box and accepts the bucket later if needed.
