OATEY 43587 4 in. PVC Spigot Fit Closet Flange with Plastic Ring

Spigot fit means the flange's own outlet is the male end. It drops into the hub (bell) end of the fitting below the floor rather than over the outside of a pipe. Oatey calls this out directly: for use in the hub-end of a fitting. If the stub coming up through your floor is a plain pipe end with no hub, a spigot-fit flange is the wrong style and you want a hub-fit or inside-fit flange instead.

It seals with a gasket. The 43587 is listed with a gasket connection, which is what makes it a Fast Set flange, so there's no solvent weld joint to make at the floor. The flange body itself is PVC.

There are 8 countersunk holes for floor screws, so you can pick up blocking or subfloor at several angles, plus two toilet bolt slots for the closet bolts. The screws sit flush because the holes are countersunk, and the flange is made to sit flush with the finished floor. Floor screws and closet bolts are not described as part of the flange, so plan on supplying them.

The flange is designed to sit flush with the floor, which is the height a standard wax ring is made to bridge. On a tile or thick finished floor, set the flange on top of the finished surface rather than under it. If the flange ends up recessed below the finish, add a flange extension ring or use an extra-thick wax seal.

Plastic. The 43587 uses a plastic ring on a PVC body in white, so there is no steel ring to rust out, which is the usual failure on metal-ring flanges in bathrooms that see standing water or frequent mopping. The tradeoff is that plastic rings can crack if a closet bolt is overtightened, so snug the bolts rather than wrenching them.

Straight. The outlet is in line with the flange, so the toilet lands directly over the drain opening. If your rough-in is off and you need to shift the bowl location, a straight flange will not do it, you need an offset closet flange.
